Default PS3 and Burned DVDs

How well does the PS3 play burned DVDs? I am trying to get my dad to buy a PS3 and go Blu but he burns all of the little kids DVDs so that they do not destroy the originals. I think this is the last thing holding him back from getting one.

I have been working him for about a year to go blu but because he works for Intel and they support HD-DVD and he was convinced they would win.... LOL now he might be blu by next week!

I create my own DVDs for band related stuff and they play just fine on my PS3. Good luck!

PS2's were notorious for trashing after playing DVDs because the drive speed was faster than just playing the games.

They fixed the issue in the 3rd generation of PS2's, and it is almost unheard of in the 4th generation of PS2's (slim).

Your PS3 will be fine playing DVDs. Drive technology has come a long way.

I have had no problem playing backup's of store-bought DVDs in my PS3, but the only reservation I might have about playback is whether the PS3 (being connected to the Internet) might be surreptiously reporting what bootlegs are being played to the Copyright Gods out there? Just a thought...

I play many burned DVDs in my PS3 and they all work perfectly.. Actually with the upscaling they are beautiful.. The only troubles Ive ever had were on crappy DVD-R discs when I tried to put to large a movie file on it.. DVD+R discs have worked like a champ since I got my PS3 on the original launch date

but how would it differentiate between a copy of a movie and a self made personal dvd video?
