Default Netflix to deliver movies direct to your TV

Link-
http://www.businessweek.com/ap/finan.../D8TU6VQ80.htm

Basically the it's a fixed monthly rate, depending on how many movies you order similar to their mail/rental program. IF this takes off, we might see the end of Brick and Mortar rental stores. Or at least, a strong decline.

My opinion, FWIW...is this could really take off. You watch movies, and decide if you like them, you can still buy them on Blu-Ray. (or standard DVD).

Frankly, I prefer buying movies, as my time is more limited for movie watching. That's why Netflix doesn't work for me now. I just don't have time to watch 10-12 movies per month. Some months, I can barely watch 2.
At least with my discs, when I have time...I can watch one..right then. Not wait for mail delivery.
Of course, if this Netflix plan takes off, I could probably do the same. But if it's not in HD..why bother?

They've been doing that through PC for awhile now. But their viewing selection is awful.

Rental Stores are not going anywhere. There is already a system in place that has been there for decades: pay per view.

I've had pay-per-view (in poorly encoded/compressed HD no less) from my cable provider for years now. How is this different? Pricing structure maybe, but what else?

Has it brought brick-n-mortar stores to their knees? Nope.

I just don't see too many people purchasing yet another monthly service resulting in yet another STB to house in their entertainment center.

If you read the article, the downloads are included in your monthly plan. I am very interested in this, but it will depend on the format that this is in for a final decision.

They are looking for other companies to do business with, this seems like a great opportunity for PS3!!

Pay per view is limited in selection, especially HD content. Seems like if netflix is doing this, they need to do it right. You already get similiar service with Amazon unbox and tivo, just no HD content which is the deal breaker. I can't believe they would just equal Amazon's service. To roll out an initiative like this, you have to think HD is in the cards. NOW, will they shoot their entire load and go 1080p? Man, that would be sweet!! Apple TV does 720p, but I suspect they will increase this at Macworld in a few weeks when they start rentals online as well.

That's very thoughtful or creative of Netflix but I don't think that's gonna win back customers. Since Netflix has a much larger variety of movies than Blockbuster, they should recommend building their own stores and should win back customers.

Building thier own stores would cost too much money and is behind the times. Movies will soon go the way of music!! Netflix has an opportunity to become the itunes of movies if Apple doesn't beat them to it first.

We live in an instant gratification society!! I've wanted to watch the simpsons on blu for 3 weeks now. Netflix is a long wait, and it's not even at my local Blockbuster or Hollywood for rental. So am I just to spend $30 for a movie I may not even want to keep? No, to be able to rent via download is a huge idea if the correct format is chosen.

Once broadband is fast enough, and once you can get 1080i/1080p movies downloaded on the day of their HDM release, Ill bite. Until then Ill gladly keep my players and Netflix by mail.

I think these downloadable movies are ahead of their time. No way am I gonna buy ANOTHER box at this point, an HDDVR, PS3 and A2 are too much as is.

I agree another box is a bit ridiculous, but I have to believe that Netflix has bigger plans then LG.

360 or ps3 will bite on this!! Game systems are turning into entertainment systems and this would be the next step. 360 is already doing this, therefore it would make huge sense for sony to get this for ps3
