Default HD DVD is almost dead... firesale anytime soon?

This seems to be similar in terms of the Virtual boy. Once $170, then 150, 99, 50, 35, 20 (at Target back in the day). I can see HD-DVD having at least one more price cut to stay alive, but if the fire sale comes similar to the virtual boy, how cheap are the players and media going to become (including the 360 HD-DVD) when the format is either dying or failing.

What do you think?

It will interesting when it does go down. I'm guessing if that event where the Toshiba's were going for $100 last year wasn't a firesale, they might dip lower. I still wouldn't buy one but they might make decent upconverting DVD Players.

You'll know it's over when you can pick up HD-DVD players for $29.99 at Tuesday Morning.

Was at my local Best Buy today trolling for converts and noticed that every Toshiba (duh!) HD DVD player for sale had a yellow tag denoting "Open Box". I took a picture for my own archives.

RAWR!

I just kinda feel sad for that lady in the Wal-Mart commercial who bought her husband an HD DVD player A TOSHIBA! for Christmas. Her husband saying, "Gee thanks for the HD DVD player. You couldn't spare a few extra bucks to buy me something I will actually be able to play some decent movies in HD?"
"But I bought you that Harry Potter box set!"
"Which I won't be able to get the last two movies to complete the set!"

Practically?!?

No, they were eating it. Selling a unit for less than it costs to make while still having to pay for the Research & Development and giving away 7 discs...they were taking negative margin and revenue in hopes that the investment would solidify a true customer base. It was their last effort in creating a customer base that Blu-ray already had, and it FAILED. This is why Warner Bros. has left and the others will follow. All the CES HD-DVD events were canceled and Microsoft has jumped ship leaving Toshiba to roll in the shit they created.

GAME OVER.
