Default Image Constraint Token rears it's ugly head. On HD DVD

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1324/...alypse_de.html

Quote:
Important Notice: This German 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse' disc is one of the first HD DVDs to be flagged with an Image Constraint Token. If your HD DVD player is connected by HDMI to your display, there should be no issue in viewing the movie at its full 1080p resolution. Unfortunately, viewers connected by Component Video will find the image downconverted to 480p Standard Definition. This is extremely disappointing, to say the least.
Granted it's on an HDDVD, and an Import at that....but could this be the beginning of the end for those component video users enjoying HD?

Safe to say, many xbox360 add on users won't be importing this one

I was actually very surprised to learn this wasn't already being done, because I remembered reading about it a few years ago.

That being said there are still a lot of 1080i RPTV owners who only have component around...

It was talked about alot. Got media attention and the studios who were pushing for it backed off.

Most likly in a few years, when people forget about it, it'll roll out from the studios again.

I will be one of those people that will be beyond upset if this begins to happen anytime soon. I have a Mitz 65" RPTV that only accepts component. I am in no hurry to replace it because it produces a terrific HD picture and it is working flawlessly.

The sad thing is I will shop the current stuff every so often (LCD, DLP, Plasma) and I feel the picture quality is no better than what I already have even though they are 1080P.

I'm right there with you. I've got a 55" Mits and I hate all the newer technologies.

Same here. I thought that was the plan with HDMI, whoever didn't have it was forced to view a lower quality movie.

That sucks!

That's bunk. I can't believe that they would be able to do that.

Because there were a lot of us that *****ed to high heaven that this was even proposed. It worked in that the studios decided to hold off on it. The ICT is as anticonsumer as you can get and even though I no longer have the 2 HDTV's which would have been affected by this (upgraded to HDMI sets this past summer) I still think it is a horrible, useless idea that only punishes paying consumers.

That would be the consumer friendly format, right?

Heh, good call out on that!

Friendly in that, you go through all the "ease" of importing, paying extra, navigating foreign menu's etc. and then you get a picture that rivals that of your existing DVD.

KKKEEENNN.....

KKeennn......

Back on script, every blu owner is pissed about profile 1.1, or 2.0, anything to detract from hd-dud being hd-dead.....

Too funny.....

But all those xbox 360 add-ons only buy movies, what are they going to do now?

Screw them... Screw Micro$haft, and screw that dumbass company toshiba for having all their shills run around the forums lying to people...

AMIRM, where are you...

Oh yeah, he was fired....errr, he retarded, I mean retired....

According to Amir a couple movies from Constantin (the publisher of the title in question) were authored with the ICT flag in place. It was an accident and was not supposed to happen.

ICT isn't supposed to be used until after 2010... and I'm pretty sure it's optional at that point.

IMO component looks horrible versus hdmi movie-wise. It's similar to the difference between dvd and blu-ray.

No offense but that is a poor opinion. Component setups can look just as good as most HDMI equipment.

Agreed. The 1080i CRT TV that I have in my bedroom only has Component inputs, but the picture is still nice.Even at 480p I get a nice picture on that TV.

you must be thinking rca, because component does not look horrible..at all

and I kinda feel bad for those who don't have hdmi ready tvs..but come on, if you have the money for blu-ray..you shouldn't have a problem with a new tv.

Wink

I am not going to read all pages here but.....

We all know it can and eventually will happen. We have known this like forever. Either upgrade to a tv with HDMI or wait for it to happen to us on Blu-Ray then upgrade your tv then.

This is no secret and IT WILL HAPPEN!

Just thought i would say.
