Default tru HD v/s Hd/ VS dts etc...

I apologize if this has been asked, but I cannot seem to find the answer. With new HD DVD and Blu Ray there seem to be many new audio options such as uncompresses, loosless, HD DTS, 7.1 etcc...

I know that prologic is the best you can get on VHS and is the basic surround. 5.1 is a step up from Pro Logic and DTS is a step up from 5.1.

With all the new audio formats, which is best? Can someone do a chart from best to worst (or worst to best) for the different audio options or give me a link that spells it out in laymans terms. Most of what I read is a little too technical.

Thanks

TrueHD=DTSMA=PCM=High Def sound
7.1 better than 5.1
Supposedly DTSMA & TrueHD can outperform PCM but, PCM requires no decoding and therefore does not require you have a state of the art receiver.

And is there a difference between Dolby Digital and these new formats? Oh yeah.
