Default Cheapest 3 hdmi in/DTS MA and Tru HD?

What receiver fits this criteria? I am going to be getting one soon along with a sub woofer to finish my setup. I might just get the 605 if 3 hdmi is too much. Trying to stay under 400.

This one will work for you: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-STRDG820-...7874850&sr=8-1

It has four HDMI inputs, and it will actually start at $399.99 when it comes out later this month.

Edit: Click here for more info: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/...52921665364791
It does DTS-HD, TrueHD, and LPCM as well.

That looks like a really good deal. Although I just found this onkyo 605 on ecost for 279 and I really only need 2 hdmi for hd dvd(yea I have it) and ps3 cause my stb doesnt need to be hdmi I can do with optical. Would that sony have any advantages over the 605 besides the number of ports.

As far as I can tell, it'd be about the same besides for the number of inputs. But it would be worth it to me to have a couple extra HDMI inputs. I don't want to start off with it completely full. But that's just me.

But if you don't care about the number of inputs, the Onkyo will do a great job.

that sony doesnt look like it supports tru hd or dts ma. all it supports is pcm. in the specs where it says tru hd and dts ma theres just a dot and doesnt say yes like the rest does. for the money, might as well go with an onk 605 and get an hdmi switch if needed

Yea well I only need the hdmi ports for the components I want to use with Tru Hd and DTS MA (PS3 yay). And for a 279 it seems like a great deal. Thanks a lot for the help I reallyt appreciate it. If anyone has any other opinions, chime in.

It does support TrueHD and DTS-HD, it just doesn't mention it there. It has been on there before.

But for $279, the Onkyo sounds like a great buy.

You do realize that the PS3 does NOT bitstream TrueHD and DTS MA, right? This means it doesn't matter if your AVR decodes them or not. The decoding is done in your PS3 and sent to the AVR as PCM. Your AVR will simply show Multi Channel In and not TrueHD and DTS MA. You can get an HDMI 1.1 AVR if you want.

Alot of people are getting confused with what receivers will work well with the PS3 for playback of the lossless codecs. Binary is correct, you do not need a receiver that can decode DTS HD-MA or DolbyTrueHD (although they will work fine) to hear the lossless audio if the PS3 if your primary playback device. The receiver only needs to be HDMI 1.1 and be able to accept LPCM. I have the Onkyo 875 (mainly for the Reon video processor for non- HD content) and it will display Multichannel on its display not DTSHDMA or TRUEHD. However because it is HDMI 1.3 if I had a BD player that could ONLY bitstream the lossless codecs to my receiver I would need a HDMI 1.3 receiver.

Generally, some of the older HDMI 1.1 or 1.2 receivers can be found for less $$ if you are looking to save a few bucks.

Cheapest and on-board DTS-HD MA/Dolby TrueHD are oxymoronic.

You'd need a player that outputs bitstream. And a receiver + speakers that could actually manifest the difference, if there is any at all.

Why would anyone care about in-receiver decoding if price is a critical factor? It's like asking what is the cheapest car that comes with racing tires.

If you have a player that does the decoding, then any receiver accepting LPCM over HDMI is sufficient.

No it won't but if you are using 1080p, be advised that 1.1 and 1.2 don't 'Officially' support 1080p even if it works Some Receiver Switcher with 1.1 and 1.2 switch won't simply work.

My best guess is if you found a 1.1 or 1.2, check avs forum for this receiver and i'am pretty sure you'll find if it works with 1080p. Some are, other aren't
