Default DVD movies and divx to BD, help please

Hi guys,
I am new at this Blu ray technology. I dont have a blu ray recorder yet, I am thinking to buy one. Right now I am using the -ram /dual side format for all my recordings.

What will interest me at this point is recording standard DVD movies recorded at home with a DVD recorder on DVD/R/RW/RAM or hard disk plus DIVX movies into BD-R and BD-RE /DL disks.

I know it is kind of not right because the purpose of BD is to have High definition quality recording but it does interest me at this point because of the high capacity of the BD DL 50GB it will fit a lot of movies inside 1 BD depend of the recording quality, up to 80 hrs. of low quality DVD recording.

And what software do you guys recomand to record all this movies from the DVD and hard drive into BD and will it play in a BD player??

Thanks a lot guys

No! Don't trip!
BDs are also for data storage. 25 - 50GB per disc of whatever you wish!
Documents, files, DivX, MPEG2... doesn't matter!
Personally, I am hoping for blank media to drop in price soon so I can buy a few for backup purposes.

I have a ton of things that could stand having a hard copy of.

Really depends on your player, if you are gonna use a PS3, then .mpeg and .avi (divx) files can be played pretty easily. Not sure about the standalones if they will play individual files.

If you want to create menus, etc...you'll need to get a authoring program like Ulead Moviefactory, DVDit Pro HD, etc... These programs may/will re-encode your files (definitely divx files) to Blu specs which can take forever!

The PS3 is your best bet for just burning the files to a disc and playing.
