Default Discount Home Video

Just launched, "a new site from the people behind the Twilight Time Movies store."

https://discounthomevideo.com/

Quote:
...based on our past relationship with you at Twilight Time Movies, we wanted to let you know we are launching a new DVD and Blu-ray store: Discount Home Video. We are the same group of movie-loving web geeks who were behind the scenes running the Twilight Time Movies store. We just launched a brand new site and fulfillment center. We have a new partner who buys overstock titles (many no longer available at retail) directly from the studios and is allowing us to make them available to you at discount prices. You will find movies from all genres: TV series, documentaries, some numbered limited-edition box sets, and more! We are starting the launch with a small group of titles, but will be adding more each week. We have limited quantities of many titles, so when they are gone, they will be gone. In the weeks ahead, you will want to check back often -- consider each visit an adventure with this dynamic inventory, you never know what will be added or sold out.

We invite you to check out the new store and tell us what you think of the site and the variety of the titles.

Ready to order? We ship next business day via USPS and Fed Ex (currently U.S. only). We take PayPal, Amazon Pay, and all major credit cards. Apple Pay is coming soon.
Disclaimer: I have no association with the site. I just received the email as a Twilight Time customer, and figured I'd share the announcement here.

It's a good idea, but they must have the same partner as HamiltonBook. A lot of the stuff there if not all is cheaper on HamiltonBook. I'll be watching what they have though.

Yeah, I mentioned that in the HB and TT threads. I thought it was HB running it, but I think maybe they just have the same supplier or something. Or maybe they're buying from HB at discounted prices and selling for higher.

I'll keep an eye on it, but nothing of interest to me right now. Cool that some of them are still trying to stay in the bizz though

Yeah, none of the prices are particularly appealing. If they're getting their supply from the same sources that Hamilton Books does, they'll need to do better to sway me away from HB.

Question: Will they offer Media Mail shipping or discard the option altogether in favor of pricier choices as they did at TT? I admit that still bugs me about TT.

Many companies won't use media mail anymore because USPS handles them very poorly and according to the last conversation I had with the Twilight Time store, many media mail packages were getting lost in distribution. Even Screen Archives stopped using media mail.

I wrote and complained that the prices were not competitive. I got a very nice letter back from support saying they will be updating their prices over the next few days to become more competitive and to check back.

Yes, both TT and Screen Archives made many claims about the horrors of media mail, but their price increases for shipping were substantial enough that many suspected they were intentionally profiting from it. I have had very few problems with media mail over the years and I personally thought the hikes at TT and Screen Archives were excessive. Maybe some thought they were reasonable. Whatever, if they have retained that policy for this new venture, I will likely skip it.

EDIT TO ADD: I jumped the gun on this one and should have checked before assuming. It's all a moot point since they DO offer Media Mail as an option!

Looks like prices have already been lowered after some of the comments, I would suppose, that came from this forum.

And nice to see they have Media Mail, though personally, I would never use that method of shipping unless you are very close to their warehouse.

This thread can be closed.

Went looking around for some holiday gift deals only to see that the store has shutdown. Ordered from them a couple times, but not often enough I guess!
