"Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" Blu-ray from Warner UK on May 19?

We've known that this was a Warner title outside the US, and Amazon's got the first sign it's coming to Blu-ray:

Sweeney Todd - The Demon Barber of Fleet Street [Blu-ray] [2007]

Just a placeholder for now, but this should be a pre-order in just a few weeks.

Well it's a Paramount title in North America so it won't be on Blu here (right away at least). Beowulf will be the same - available in UK on Blu but not in NA. Might as well do an order from Amazon UK for both to save on shipping.

This title will be Paramount/Dreamwork in US,so HD DVD exclusive... Unless there's a change in paramount policy

There's no need for "Oh noes!" It's distributed in Japan and South East Asia by WB. The same for Beowulf. So that's import Region A.

All Warner releases (US or abroad) are region-free. That's why I posted it. Believe me, folks, you'll be able to watch "Beowulf" and "Sweeney Todd" Blu-rays with no problem.

How can you tell if a title is region free? Does it say it on the packaging anywhere? Also, if a title is indeed region free will it always be? That is to say suppose a firmware or other update doesn't add it on and render any overseas purchases useless in the future.

it a title is region free it will have ABC on the back of the cover , all of warner's releases have been region free so its safe to say any new release will be region free.

So region A is playable in North America? I just want to make sure if I buy one of these imported titles that it will work from day one and every day that follows. Anyone know if a firmware update, or any other for that matter, will not render an import useless in the future?

I have no idea if a firmware update could invent playback issues on an import---but why in the hell would any CE company or studio face a class-action lawsuit over goods already sold?

This is the ONE release I'm dead jealous of as far as HD-DVD is concerned. I will happily import if possible. Although I'm hoping Paramount will announce this as one of the first Blu titles when they inevitably switch.

I cant wait to see this movie, I never got the chance to see it in theaters, just didnt have the time or money. Looking forward to buying the disc, whether it is BD or DVD.

Although I doubt it, it would be awesome for Paramount to release this to Blu as one of the first new titles. However I think it will come out before they make the change. Even if that is true, it should still be one of the first new Blu titles to come out by that studio, and will most likely be out this year.
I eagerly await it, with uncompressed 7.1 surround sound!

Come on Paraversal! Wake up and smell the Blu-ray!

I just want to keep this as a BIG BLU FLAG on the boards because I don't want Paramount to forget that there is a demand for this film. Personally, it was my vote for the best of 2007.

I concur that it is a GREAT film. But I think a lot of people will be complaining about the high-def discs when it does come out. It's incredibly dark, and the colors are heavily desaturated. There is also a lot of grain. So, while I will definitely pick up this title, I think you'll find a lot of people disappointed.
