Default What are the chances of seeing obscure/low-budget films on Blu-ray?

I was wondering. Eventually will all movies make their way onto Blu-ray. There are some films I like, which to start out woth don't have high quality video or sound transfers. One Movie I really enjoy, although a bit Cheesy is Dario Agrento and Lamberto Bava's Demons. Now this will never have 5* PQ, but I would like to add something like this to my BD collection. What do you think ht echances are we will see movies like this and many other low budget movies on BD.

I think that as time goes by, more and more titles will be added to the list of Blu-ray movies. Eventually, just about everything will have to be on Blu-ray because it will become the mainstream format, once it wins over standard DVD in about 5-8 years.

Anchor Bay did quite a few of the Argento flicks. Maybe Starz will go back to them and release them on Blu. All the flicks that might take a very long time and some might not even see the Blu.

I don't think EVERYTHING will come out on Blu-ray, but probably all new releases, even minor ones will. There are still some movies that haven't been released on DVD. Look just this year Twilight Zone the Movie just came out for the first time on DVD after being unavailable on VHS for a very long time. Howard the Duck is being released on DVD for the first time, but only in Europe, not in the US and I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't come out here. I am sure there are many many more movies that may never make it to BD as it probably isn't worth it to the studio to upgrade.

I still have several Laserdisc titles that have yet to appear on DVD after all these years of waiting. I'm actually hoping that some titles will skip over the DVD phase and move directly to Blu-ray: A perfect example is a box Laserdisc set of all 2,500 the paintings and drawings in the Louvre collection. They'd be perfect in Blu-ray--to be able to view each one, and even some detailed shots of many of them, in Hi Def would be quite remarkable.

The other problem is price. Certain select, even obscure, older films likely would not sell as well on Blu-ray if the prices were not kept reasonable. Not every title produced could induce enough people to pay $27.95 to acquire them.

When mass adoption takes place you will even be able to buy the junk from Alpha video on Blu-ray. Hell, look at the crap already foisted on unsuspecting hi-def customers! We are ready willing and somewhat able to buy whatever they through at us!

No. Not everything will see a bd release. There are movies that saw a VHS release but never got one on DVD and then there are films that have never seen anything but a theatrical release.

I doubt poor sellers on DVD would be a good studio investment in Blu.

I think everything will be avalable, but you will not want everything. Look at some of the crap they transfered to DVD, some of the old movies they never bothered to clean up or restore, usullay from an independent studio but some from larger studios. We bought them because the VHS wold contine to degrade, but the DVD would not. It is my bet that there will be some put on Blu that will not look good, and some that will be direct ports from DVD so they can make a few bucks on the Blu, some have already doen this, T2 for one. Maybe they will fix some of them later, but some will never bother to be fixed.

You never know. There are some titles out on DVD that most people have never heard of, and then there're titles like True Lies that is still awaiting a decent release. So . . . you never know.
