Default Low-budget options?

I had not planned on making the jump to Blu-Ray for a while; I am trying to get my freelance business off the ground, so all my finances have gone into that venture, leaving very little left over for any luxuries.

But I'm a big Pixar fan, and I'd like to be able to enjoy all the features included on the Blu-Ray discs for the last two Pixar movies -- features that were not included on the DVDs (like commentaries).

However, I do not have a large budget to throw into a Blu-Ray player and high-definition television. Are there any low-budget options? (And I mean low, as in $300 or less.)

Honestly, if I were you I would wait. Stick with the DVD's for now. By the time you have a more sizable budget you will be able to pick up a player that is at least profile 1.1 for a good price.

But if your adamant about getting mixed up in a format war then the cheapest I've seen a BR player is for around 300 and it was the new sharp that came out. It's only profile 1.0 though and future releases will have extra features that require profile 1.1, so you won't be able to play those features on a 1.0 player. And honestly at the moment I don't like recommending anything but a PS3 or the new Panny because the Panny is 1.1 and the PS3 will be soon as well.

Are there any new HD toys you could claim as a business expense?

There is no HD TV/ Blu Ray solution that's as inexpensive as that.
You may be able to pick up a used PS3 aftermarket for near $300.00.

Welcome to the forums.
I hate to say it, but right now, joining the format war might not be the best thing for you.
I suggest that you wait. It is very fluid right now and the prices are going to drop most likely after the holidays. But the best consoles with the latest features are more than your budget.
However if you must, there are a few players that have dropped to close to $300. If you can get a refurbished, used, or somehow discounted model, then you can probably get it in your price range. You might even be able to get a PS3 at that price with the right discounts.
For everything that the PS3 does, i highly suggest that you get a PS3. Sure it plays games, but it also plays up-converted DVDs, BDs, CDs, SACDs, movie files, internet access, mp3s, jpegs, etc.. It is a GREAT center for your HD set-up, (or any set up if you have not yet gone to HD). I think it would be best to wait, or splurge a little on the PS3. The price of the PS3 is not likely going to drop any time soon, as they have already lowered it many times before the holidays.

I would wait. You could get in now, but you'll end up with a no name 720P tv that probibly has a poor picture to begin with, which would be a waist, because you'll end up buying a better 1080P tv a year down the road. Then you will want a good sound system. You could get a home theater in a box, but again be looking to upgrade in the not to distant future.

I would say start with a good 1080P TV and get Each piece little by little as you can afford them, and wait for the good sales.
