Default Its Starting to Look like Chirstmas

Around this time of year everyone starts thinking about gifts for loved ones. Unfortunately certain people arent as computer literate as they would like to be. I ask you the people of Blu-ray.com forum what you think would be the Fastest, and strongest machine available with blu-ray.

Default Consider waiting on Blu-ray equipped PC

I am using a Sony Blu-ray drive to record my own hi-definition movies (HDV) and can tell you all things blu-ray in the PC arena are very new and therefore, fraught with weaknesses. For instance, there are only a couple Sony notebooks that are Blu-ray and will play such movies - and not very well either. Blu-ray desktops that have the one or two video cards that will work with an HDCP compliant screen cannot be purchased outright yet, to my knowledge. The Vista operating system from Microsoft will change much else next quarter.....so unless your friend is really into this (in which case he/she knows what is needed), I would wait.

Hey Don - which software are you using to 'author' the HDV sourced discs?

I should have my Sony BDP-S1 in 10 days and we will see if an all Sony solution will play. (ie, look to the BDAV folder for material)
