I do want that Atmos mix. Hopefully there’ll be a stand-alone Blu-ray release someday.

I bought the blu from the previous immersion set on Ebay and was delighted to receive the actual thing and not something homemade.

My collection of Blu Rays from Pink Floyd keeps on growing.

I don't plan to buy this set but I might..... I didn't buy the previous set so that helps.

I read they planned to make the entire catalog available on 5.1 SACD at one time. I really believe stand alone releases will come out eventually and Apple will get lossy ATMOS of the whole kit too .... I hope.

I begrudgingly pre-ordered via Amazon despite the high price. I would rather have a physical Blu-ray disc of the surround formats than not. So thats why I decided to purchase this boxset. At least they didn't pull a Beatles Revolver boxset and dump the Atmos mix on digital only.

I'm grateful they're offering a physical option for the Atmos mix, but they're definitely taking the piss here...

The content on the two BDs doesn't even add up to 25GB. They could have done PCM presentations of the 5.1 and 2.0 mixes at 24/96 and 24/192 respectively, dts-MA presentations of both AND the Atmos mix all within about 19-20GB.

Delays notwithstanding, after knocking Animals out of the park its a shame they're doing this all in one approach here forcing you to buy a lot of stuff you don't want IF you want to own one optical disc.

Also they could have included the Parsons Quad mix here and still used a single BD25 for all the high rez/surround options.

Given how much I prefer the Parsons 4.0 mix over Guthrie's 5.1, I am going to wait this one out for now but will keep a price watch on 3Camels.

It's incredible to me that you're complaining when I look at all of the different mixes they are giving you. This looks like an amazing set for one of the greatest albums ever.

I have the Immersion box set so I doubt that this is something I'll pick up.

Not interested at $300 but the planetarium screenings could be interesting.

What mixes are they giving me for $300 that they didn’t already give me for $100?

Answer: one, and they’re missing one, so net zero different mixes.

Some of the mixes are from the new remaster. Those will all be new as well.

But the 2023 mix is offered in several formats so it's one new mix to the max.
Everything under the sun is in tune.

Vinyl 2023
Compact disc Stereo 24bit/44.1kHz
5.1 Surround Mix – 24bit/96kHz Uncompressed
Stereo Mix – 24bit/192kHz Uncompressed
5.1 Surround Mix – dts-HD MA
Dolby Atmos Mix

I listened to the 4 channel yesterday from the immersion set for the first time in a long time which was great fun while I'm waiting for this.

I want all the new mixes. I won't be subscribing to DarkSideoftheMoon+ but I love the thought of Pink Floyd releasing new remasters of old masterpieces. They can scrape this barrel for years because It will be a long time before I have had enough.

Ready to pre order the Wall box in 2029! (It better have multi channel tho)

EDIT - also mine shipped this morning. Good times.

New Review from VintageRock dot com

https://vintagerock.com/pink-floyd-t...boxset-review/

"Indeed, the Atmos mix alone is almost worth the price of admission for the 50th anniversary edition."

... single disc with the 4.0 quad mix, the DTS 5.1 mix, and the Atmos mix (even DTS:X over Atmos), and ask about $14.99 for it, watch it sell without the syrup ....

I think they left the quad mix out of this set intentionally. It's in the Immersion box and by leaving it off of this one, the Immersion set has something that is special on it for those that have it.

Pink Floyd's back catalogue was due to be sold to an investment group for half a billion last October, but that hasn't come to fruition because of Waters. So I suppose this will keep Gilmour in plectrums for a while longer. Remastered yet again by Guthrie, if they wanted something interesting they should have let Steven Wilson have a go. The 160 page book is available separately for around £30. No quad mix, no early mix, no unreleased tracks, no video, no documentary make this a very poor offering compared with Immersion. The only interesting thing I can see is the Atmos mix and I'll wait to see if it gets a download release. As a price comparison, today sees the release of the 8CD box of Thin lizzy Live & Dangerous for £65

Are you talking about the actual recordings or their publishing rights to their songs ? I would think the record companies would own the recordings/master tapes but maybe I’m wrong

I'd assume the sale of rights includes original recording materials. Otherwise half a billion dollars for a box set of CDs is a bit steep even by Pink Floyd's standards.

Don't think we'll be seeing anything else from Floyd for quite some while after Polly Sampson's text and Waters announcing he's the sole creator of Dark Side and he's re-recorded it for release in May.

In the mean time here's an absolutely glorious piece of tat https://olympialetan.com/collections...-moon-strapped

I guess it helps that I'm a Kiss fan. They put out all kinds of stuff and I only buy the stuff that I like. I never feel pressure to buy something.

The music industry and the movie industry are similar in this way: There's albums and movies that people will buy over and over again, as long as there's SOMETHING new in the package. For this one it's that Atmos mix. They do it because they know they'll sell...and they do.

With all the albums that deserve a multichannel mix, it's disappointing that they keep going back to the same old war horses over and over again. I look at the titles that were put out by MFSL back in the 80s on LP and they got re-released on audiophile CDs, DVDs, SACDs, blu-rays... over and over. I like this album, but if you haven't gotten a good sounding version of it by now, you aren't trying. But people who believe in the lies of "new and improved" and "if it costs more, it must sound better" must be a big enough market to keep flogging the same old dead horses.
