I guess it helps that I'm a Kiss fan. They put out all kinds of stuff and I only buy the stuff that I like. I never feel pressure to buy something.

The music industry and the movie industry are similar in this way: There's albums and movies that people will buy over and over again, as long as there's SOMETHING new in the package. For this one it's that Atmos mix. They do it because they know they'll sell...and they do.

I have three vinyl copies of DSotM, two CD copies, and two multichannel. That's seven copies of the same album. I'm sure there are people who have more than that. I only listen to the quad version, and not even that. I have the album memorized. I really don't need to play it any more.

The 160 page book is available separately for around £30. No quad mix, no early mix, no unreleased tracks, no video, no documentary make this a very poor offering compared with Immersion. The only interesting thing I can see is the Atmos mix and I'll wait to see if it gets a download release. As a price comparison, today sees the release of the 8CD box of Thin lizzy Live & Dangerous for £65
Are you talking about the actual recordings or their publishing rights to their songs ? I would think the record companies would own the recordings/master tapes but maybe I’m wrong

They couldn't have put any less effort in this set if they tried.

I'd assume the sale of rights includes original recording materials. Otherwise half a billion dollars for a box set of CDs is a bit steep even by Pink Floyd's standards.

Don't think we'll be seeing anything else from Floyd for quite some while after Polly Sampson's text and Waters announcing he's the sole creator of Dark Side and he's re-recorded it for release in May.

In the mean time here's an absolutely glorious piece of tat https://olympialetan.com/collections...-moon-strapped

Great album, but ridiculous price tag.
At least Animals 2018 is affordable.
For a little over $30 on Amazon, I got BOTH he cd, and the BD.
They also included a FREE Autorip copy.
Did not need the vinyl or DVD.

I think I still have the 8-track version of this in a box in my garage.
I was kinda excited about this release, till I saw the price...

While a political discussion would be interesting if people were capable of engaging in a civilized, evidence-based discussion avoiding emotional arguments and personal attacks, it still wouldn't be allowed here. This thread is for discussion of the 50th anniversary release of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. If you wish to discuss politics, there are hundreds of other forums that don't explicitly forbid that in their forum rules. Please stay on topic.

There is only one edition, it includes vinyl and CDs plus BDs and a DVD.
There is also a separate CD or vinyl release of the live album from the big release:

Thank you for the detailed review.

Is it fair to say you have listened to them?

Can you provide any details about what you equipment listened to them with?

What about the mix was poor?

I have a 7.2.4 set up with 2 Rel t/i9's. Marantz SR8012 AVR.

Fully treated room with RPG modex plates. PMC speakers.

The 2 tracks on Apple so far are very poor. Barely any difference to the SACD, except bloated bass in sections, likely due to the fact Guthrie mastered it and not Doug Sax.

Total wasted opportunity. I am really pissed about this as I have ordered box set.

Good grief if you think Apple Music is the same as Blu Ray audio you wasted a lot on that setup.

Did you notice what is live on Apple Music is not even Atmos !! So you have not heard any Atmos mix of this but you clearly have a preference for who mastered it and that’s the main thing.

There’s still time to cancel your pre order and it seems you should.

Then why didn’t you mention how you did that ?

On Apple Music I see high res only.

The information you’ve provided is conflicting. You said you’ve heard the Atmos mixes, then you mentioned that you heard them because two are available on iTunes now, then after it was stated that those are stereo only have come back with an even less descriptive comment repeating that you’ve heard them.

So when you said you heard them via Apple, did you make a mistake? If so, via which platform have you heard them? No reviewers have received review discs and they’re not on any lossy Atmos streaming platforms yet.
