Hi all,
Playing to jump in and buy Blu-ray player for a 50 inch 1080p Plasma. Will not play games but pure for Movies I know the PS3 is good blu ray but its 60fps while movies are at 24fps PS3 with Wireless internet / HD for 40 GB to store movies from Online just looks like a better buy plus for profile and HDLM version. Is the difference between 60 and 24 important ? Can anyone tell me if the quality they see if better now with the panasonic Blu-ray BD-30 Is PS3 upscaler good compared to standalone thanks for helping as know few questions here... |

Hey I understand your dilemma.
I got a SS BD-P1200.-( You don't have to say : I'm sorry to hear that. It is a slow but curable disease.) Anyway I just got PS3 too. I also thought about the pan and a new Blu-ray HTPC. I am not the gaming type either but I am the media server type. I like the PS3 thus far and plan on getting a ex HDD to store some of my most liked SD DVDs. I can't tell that the PS3 is any better or any worse @ PQ for Blu-ray. I would personally need two identical TV's tell the difference, but that's me.( I own a 56" SS DLP ) I watched STAR WARS 3 this morning on the PS3 and I was more than happy with the PQ. I haven't read any "BAD" reviews of the BD30 either so I guess it really up to your likes and wants. |

![]() ...im actually gonna get my second PS3 (bluray movies only myself) for my bedroom. The wifi is perfect. You can surf the net and play media straight from your PC. Or pop in a bluray movie. ![]() |

Thanks all, As I'm blu-eyed from reading different reviews and wanted to hear from users. As my Pasma is 1080p and Pioneer LX50 new model , wanted to get the best for it. as spend a lot on the TV and did not want to let it down on the movie side. I see the following reasons
PS3: * Wireless - no there standalone has it for FW updates * Upscales and 24FPS - same as the other stand alones *Future proof - Thinking I tired of buying a player and than going nuts a year * later with lack of connection or something better and standalone missing that * Download movies to Harddisk and can in time get rid of CD's * Internet browser * price So PS3 above features just make the mind up So people here with PS3 say that the quality of picture is as good, thanks for confirming that. How is upscale quality on the PS3 compared to standalone , anyone test that? is it the same? Where is the best place to buy a new PS3 in Europe ? |

If a disc is of bad PQ quality to begin with. There isn't much you can do with it anyways. Over-processing can worsen the PQ even more than helping it. You just get an upscaled 1080p piece of crap. Quote:

If I were to buy a blu-ray player today I would really only consider a PS3. At $400 it is steal given all the things it does and it is the only existing player that is truly future-proof for the future software upgrades. The Cnet article that chan1490 referenced is quite good and revealing. Below is a direct quote from the article that confirms that in their view that if you are to buy a blu-ray player today your best bet is to get a PS3.
"So there you have it: there's absolutely no compelling reason to dive into Blu-ray, at least for the next few months. But as with all of the items above, the conclusion comes with a big caveat of its own: the Sony PlayStation 3. It's the only player that's futureproof, it doubles as a top-notch game machine and network digital media streamer, and it's readily available for $400. Oh--it also happens to be a great Blu-ray player, and it does a fine job of upconverting your standard DVDs to high-definition resolutions. As such, it remains the exception to the rule, and the only Blu-ray player that we can enthusiastically recommend for the time being." |
