Scheduled downtime - Wednesday July 19th - Blu-ray Forum

Hey guys! Long story short, but our hosting provider was acquired by another company some time ago and we need to move our server physically. This will mean some downtime. We will do our best to minimize it of course. The preliminary date is set to July 14th, we will make a broadcast announcement when it's firm. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: The maintenance has been postponed (due to a power mismatch). We will get back with a new date.

Edit 2: Wednesday July 19th.

Edit 3: Complete, server back up.

Edit 4: It seems like email is not working at all at the moment, we are working on a fix.

Edit 5: Email should be fixed.

I hope this won't end up removing threads. Been on too many sites over the years that ended up breaking their message boards when moving.

No changes to software etc, just moving the server like 100m and changing IPs.

You may want to reduce your domains / sub-domains TTL values to like 10 minuted from the current 2 hours for quicker propagation changeover to the new IP. This should be done at least 2 hours if not more before the planned change. Then you can bump them back up after. Just a suggestion.

Good suggestion

We gradually took it down from 2 weeks to 2 hours but forgot to go even lower right before the actual move in the heat of the moment.

Yeah, it was off for about 3 hours and then BOOSH it was back.

New servers, same problems. Why does your DNS or something fail at 6am eastern multiple times per week? It's ridiculous. I get "connection refused" or something for like 10 minutes or so, ONLY this site. Just happened again 30 minutes ago.

That's the daily backup of everything, to get a clean state we stop the webserver while it is running.

I'd say a daily backup of a simple movie forum is overdoing it and taking the whole server down for that is ridiculous. Haven't you ever heard of READ ONLY mode???? You can lock everything without taking it down.
