Default Indiana Jones 4 no to digital format at Theaters

JoBlo reports that Paramount is informing theaters that per Steven Spieberg's orders, the film will NOT be available in digital format and that complexes who can't project 35mm format let them know.

Thus those hoping to check the film out in high-res digital projection, I'm afraid you're out of luck. It also makes one wonder about not just this film's but the original trilogy's fate on the Blu-ray format.

Speilberg filmed this movie using conventional film, I think it's his last before going to digital. So that may be the reason for it.

Spieberg is never going digital. He's firmly drawn that line in the sand. His first movie was shot on film, and his last film will be shot on film.

i pay 8 bucks to go see a digital film, i get 2 million pixels on the screen for my 8 bucks, now tell me why i should pay the same amount of money for less than a million pixels!!!! maybe if it was only 4 bucks to see the movie it would be worth it, but I'm not paying for something, no matter how good the movie is, to be thinking my contacts are getting foggy the whole movie.

where did the 3 year comment come in at.

good idea, lets just keep movies at the theater exactly how they were. No progression in quality, just keep them how they were in 2005.

Digital projection started in the 90s with a few selected screens.

I have yet to even watch a movie at the theater on digital projection

I dont care what Indiana Jones will be playing on..all I know is im going to see this movie because ive been waiting forever to see it. I could careless which screen its on and what seats im sitting in and if there are scratches. I love going to the movie theater for the movie. I dont really get picky about the picture quality.

Well good for you, but digital projection was not a norm then or even two years ago in most areas. If you're going to argue that point you're wrong.

Then you'll be waitin' till 2009, cause it's gonna have a LONG, LONG theatical run. BTW, it looks GREAT in trailer form.

ALL Films are now scanned and brough to the editiing suit anyway. I would REALY be supprise to see any film done in the past 10 years that did'nt have any digital fix. Not even Speilberg edits on the old tables anymore. There is no point and that would be insane to do it anyway.
I assure you he does indeed still edit on a Moviola. For him the smell, look and feel. The tactile aspect is very much part of his creative process

Here's a trivia question on that

What other film studio still edits on a Moviola, this particular machine they use has produced at least one best-picture winner?

I think it is because Spielberg loves film projection. I remember hearing him say something like digital projection is taking the soul out of theatrical presentations.

SS may never shoot in digital, but the distributor at some point will have no choice but to convert his films to digital whether he wants it or not. Let's say Spielberg is still making films 15 years down the road. How many theatres will have the 35mm capacity to run a film like Indy? The top three exhibitors in the nation are currently in the process of converting. They will not keep every 35mm projector along with their dlp's just to show his movies when they are released. There simply will not be enough room in the projection booth.

I have kept 3 35mm projectors out of ten, primarily because not all films right now are shot or converted to digital. But some day, the bulk of the industry will have converted to digital and there won't be enough of the 35's around to make the film any money, therefore Spielberg will have to at the very least show his films in digital. If he wants to make more than a few thousand dollars anyway.

As far as quality goes, I think 35 is outstanding if you have a theatre that takes care of the equipment properly. But I'm with Stockstar. I prefer DLP to 35 anyday. It's all a matter of opinion and personal preference.
