Default Stephen King Movie's /Any Dark Tower Junkies out there?

The Dark tower is the greatest series, greatest anything I have ever read. I lived and died with Roland and his Ka-Tet for twenty years and when it was over, really over...I could not accept that this masterpiece was done. I was left to wonder, whats next? A Movie? A chronology of Roland's childhood as a separate book? Will J.J. Abrams really direct the Dark Tower movie? His movies when done right have been very successful i.e. Shawshank, Green Mile, Misery but then theres been the dud's Christine, Mist, Cujo etc...I've been very entertained by the Marvel Comic book but lets have a movie and lets have it done right.

Greatest... Books... Ever... I kind of want them to make a mini-series like the stand. because the series is so long I think that a movie would have to cut so much out of it and it just wouldn't be the same. So I vote for a mini-series!!!

I would love for Peter Jackson to get his hands on this and do it in the same fashion as Lord of the Rings...but who writes the screenplay will be the real key.

I can't read too much of your posts if it talks about The Dark Tower.
I started reading the books in 1991 and in 1993 finished by reading The Wastelands. It was sometime I believe before Book IV came out and by that time I was too busy living out my 20's in various bars and clubs across Toronto.

Now that all seven books are out, I have decided to re-read the entire series. I am currently half way through the second book. It is like reading everything again for the first time which is most excellent.

Where Jackson to make a movie series of The Dark Tower I would be thrilled. I think it is an amazing series of books, even though I have yet to read four of them at all.

I was very excited when The Talisman was announced with Spielberg as producer, but I see it has now been changed to a TV Series, which depresses me to no end. I wish I had never watched The Stand - for the original creations in my mind of all those characters will never run through my head again quite like they will now that I've seen the series. Casting Parker Lewis as Harold was the casting I liked the least.

I voted for The Green Mile, but I did love The Shining, Shawshank and Atlantis (added to poll) very much.

Nicely done Doby. I am actually jealous of you because you have not read the whole series which means your in for a hell of a ride. Hell I'm going through it for the fifth time and it still just as exciting as the second...although book six was pretty bad but I guess necessary to develop a particular character....Have fun DOby the audio is a great way to go also especially read by Frank Miller.

Ive read the entire series through about 4 times and it never gets old. I love this series, its my favorite series of books ever created besides the Ender series from Orson Scott Card. If they made movies out of the dark tower books id crap myself. Just hope they do a good job, abrams or jackson would probably be perfect for it.

I've heard rumors about a nasty exchange between Spielberg and King back during the 80's (while King was directing "Maximum Overdrive") that puts that snarky "Mirror, Mirror" episode of "Amazing Stories" in a very interesting light...

These books are quite honestly my favorite books of all time...

I thought I read somewhere that they were going to make a made for TV miniseries out of it or something to that effect...

I think it would be near impossible to do these right. You would have to sign on cast for seven movies and how hard is that?

With the exception of Harry Potter's movie venture, who could say that someone would want to step into the roles of Roland, Jake, Odetta, and Eddie on a continous bases for seven movies?

Also, I think that the ending to the book would not be suitable for your typical "hollywood ending," and thusly they would attempt to rewrite it and ruin it.

I know it's a different genre, but how does it stack against harry potter? Harry potter isn't the type of book I normally read personally but it is definitely the best series i've ever read in my life.

I don't read much, but I only read Stephen King exclusively, and have read pretty much all of his books with the exception of what has come out in the past year and a half or so...... I love his books, but it's rare that the movies are worth anything..... The Shining was awesome though, but Misery, Tommyknockers, Pet Semetary, etc. were all so terrible (Misery wasn't too bad I guess) especially given the greatness of the books!

Needful Things is my favorite King book and was an enjoyable movie, but Shawshank is by far the best movie so far.
