Default mitsubishi DLP

This is my first post on here, so hi!

I'm getting ready to buy the Sony Blu-ray player and need to upgrade my Mitsubishi 54" HD rear projection TV, as I want to be able to recieve the 1080p and my Mits. does not have the HDMI input. I was looking at the 57" Diamond series DLP from Mits. Just wondering what you guys thought of it and if it will work well with the Blu-ray player? Can't find any info on the Mits website as to whether the TV supports 1080p/24.

Also, if I understand it correctly, will the Blu-ray send the raw 1080p to the DLP via the HDMI cable and it will in-turn display that without changing it to 1080i and then back to 1080p again?

Also, are there any setup Blu-ray discs available such as the AVIA or Video Essentials discs that are for DVD. If not, anyone know of plans to release them. I guess I can still use them, but I would think that a Blu-ray version would be better to calibrate Blu-ray playback.

Thanks for any help,
Josh

The Sony BDs have an easter egg with test patterns. The T2 BD has the THX optimizer thing.

About things like knowing if a set has true 1080 60p/24p inputs and how the various displays handle deinterlacing of 1080 60i signals, maybe between all of us we could start a list with known displays that do them correctly. It'll take a while but it could become very helpful and be a sticky.

I only know the Sony TVs that can accept a 1080p/60/24fps signal. I don't think the Mitsubishi TVs can accept that right now.

The Sony TVs that Sony Direct says can accept a 1080p/60/24fps signal are as follows:

KDL40XBR2
KDL40XBR3
KDL46XBR2
KDL46XBR3
KDL52XBR2
KDL52XBR3
KDSR60XBR2
KDSR70XBR2

Pioneer Elite Plasma TVs can accept a 1080p/60/24fps (even their last generation 720p/1080i plasmas--according to their rep).

I'm heading over to the shop that has the Mits. today (they are putting a remote start in my wife's car). I'll see if anyone knows whether it does or not and post the results.

i used to have the 57" mits but returned due to a soft image... now have the sammy 56"

and for a quickie the manual said it accepted 24,30, and 60hz for 1080p and only 60hz for 480i-1080i.

I have the Mits 65" DLP (WD-65731) and it shows the same refresh rates Jason mentions for the 57". 1080p looks amazing from my Panny Blu-ray player.

Thanks for the info. I think I will get the Mitsubishi then. I didn't notice that the image was soft, quite the opposite actually. Maybe something was screwy with yours.?
