Default Calling all Mitsubishi DLP owners

I just had another bulb burnout. This is the second bulb I have had to replace since I bought in Oct 06... the last bulb burnout was in April 07. Just wondering if anybody else here has the same issues. I have the 57731 model. I got it at Best Buy and got the 4 year plan which is starting to look like a good investment...

Maybe you should have gotten a Mitsubishi projector instead. I bought mine (HC3000) in June of 2006 and haven't had any issues with it at all. The lamp is still going strong.

Maybe... I am beginning to wonder if my TV is a lemon. It just seems ridiculous to go through 2 bulbs that quickly.

My signature shows that I have a Mitsu 65" DLP 1080P RP TV. No problems with replacing bulb, I am still on the same original bulb since Aug 2006. I am not sure why you are having to replace it so much. It depends if your TV is on like 10 hours a day, ofcourse the bulb will go out once a year, these bulbs are rated for 2500-3500 hours only, and they cost about $250 or more to replace. Same goes for overhead projectors.

Have owned mine since Jan. 07' and still going on the original bulb. I have heard of some users with the same problem as yours though. Ive used the set heavily but I keep the temperature of room in the low to mid 70s which seems to help.

It is used a lot, but 2 bulbs in 16 months @ 10 hours a day is approximately a total of 4854 hours. I know it hasn't been used that excessively. I can see one bulb going out in that time frame not 2. Who knows ... at least I get free bulbs until BB either replaces the TV or when the 4 year plan runs out.

well what is lifespane of those lamps?

You calaibrated your tv? A bad calabration can shorten the life.

Bad power? A voltage reglutaor could help out a lot. AC's & vacuum cleaners or any super power hungery item will put stress on the lamp.
Also turning the TV On/OFF 'lots' of times in 1 day puts stress on the lamp. For a RP it is best not to turn it On/Off no more then 2-3 time in 1 day & in that time give the tv 30-60 minuts for the lamp too cool off 100%

I'd suggest a Belkin PF60 Power Console (Pricegrabber is your friend) to alleviate any power line causes.

Also, make sure that if the TV has been turned off that the cooling fan has completed its cycle before turning the TV back on. For my Samsung, I wait at least five minutes.

Another consideration is the floor under the set. Wood floors may carry vibrations, even small amounts of vibration can considerably shorten bulb life. You might look in to a sorbathane pad to isolate the set from the floor.

Talking Same Bulb for Almost 14 months

I bought my Mitsubishi 57 HDTV the week after Thanksgiving in 06. Still enjoying the same bulb and enjoy watching Blu-Ray titles on it. I watch TV a lot. From Blu, to standard shows, to HDTV.

Is your brightness still set at factory setting? That would definitely shorten bulb life. Also, be sure the cooling vents on the back of the TV are not blocked.

Is your tv in a switched outlet? A friend of mine had to replace three bulbs before he found out what was causing the problem. He had his tv plugged into his cable box and when the box when off so did the power to tv. The tv did not have enough time to cool the bulb properly and this caused the failure of the bulbs. Also check to make sure your tv fan is running after you turn off the set. You may have a defective fan.

I am guessing it must be something with the TV itself then. I will look into getting voltage conditioner and some of the other advice given. I only have to burn out 2 more bulbs in the next 30 or so months and then I should get a new TV from BB due to their no lemon policy. The way things are going I should be able to accomplish this in half the time.

At least I only have to wait till Thursday to be able to watch TV again... plus not having a TV right now gives me a chance to work on my Physics and Differential Equations homework without distractions (Old school TV upstairs went out last week ).

It is not on factory brightness, and the vents aren't blocked.

Mine still has the original bulb but I did have the "air flow" issue noted here which was fixed via a service call. My TV is about 1 year old now.

No it is plugged into a 24/7 outlet. I am pretty certain that the fan is running good... it was running after the bulb failed, and when I have been around the fan side of the TV you can hear the fan and feel the air being blown out of the left side.

I am not to worried about the TV right now because the worst case scenario right now is not having a working TV to watch Blu or play PS3 on for a short duration. It seems like my case is not a normal one by any means...

Interesting... we will see what the tech has to say on Thursday. I did take the lamp out and there was a little bit of dust on it... I wonder how much of a difference it would make to routinely clean it.

Speaking of cleaning... to what extent does everybody clean their TV's? I dust it at least once a week and wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth inside and outside. Anything else I should be doing?

I have had this problem and FINALLY my lemon clause was used.

I had a 65732 and it had bulbs going out literally every two months. Mits came and replaced the bulb and looked and then later after the same thing they said deal with your extended warranty. I got yanked around so bad with Mits that when best buy took over they would replace a part and the lamp and still nothing. Just this week I had my 6th bulb blow and BB came and said there is nothing more to replace and got approved for my lemon. The downside is its a year and two months so the manf. warranty is no good and if you use your lemon clause on the extended warrrany after the year then the extended warranty is considered fufilled. For my size and price I ended up getting another Mits 65833 but I still had to buy another extended warranty, which you should have with these but knowing your TV was bunk from the get go it leaves you not feeling all warm and cozy.
