Default Video Upscaling Question.

Is there a way to turn off the video upscaler in my tv? I've used a normal dvd player, a dvd upconverter, and a PS3 and they all produce identical pictures that are not as good of quality as I know they can be. So, I'm thinking my tv is reprocessing whatever the dvd upscaler is doing and I'd like to find a way to turn it off to test. I have a Sony KDL-40v2500.

As far as I know the Sony V2500 video scaler cannot be turned off. You just need to use the HDMI connection to bypass as many filters as possible. The scaler is simply trying to upscale less than 1080P signal. I am not 100% on this as I havent thouroghly went thru the V2500 setup menu but I do know some TVs allow you to set the scaling levels. Sonys DRC or Mits has a 480P or 1080I settings in older models. Hope you figure out your problem

If you're inputting 1080p to the set, then no upscaling will be occuring, and all your issues are upstream.

Is this using a DVD in all of them or a DVD, DVD, Blu-Ray?

Yeah, I wouldn't expect a DVD to look that different. You can only do so much with one of those. You have seen Blu-Ray's right?

Yea, I've seen plenty of BD. I was just figuring if I could turn the scaler off, I might could get DVDs and maybe even SD cable to look better if I used a better scaler than the one that is in the tv.

Have you calibrated your TV? MY SD content looked pretty crappy to until I did that. As far as I know, the TV does no upscaling.
