Default Will my present setup produce True HD lossless Audio ?

Okay I'm a newbie and a poster suggest that my question be posted here so here goes. I just purchased a Sony BDP-S300 and I'm finding out that it does not decode True HD Lossless audio or it does ? ( I'm confused.) I have a Yamaha HTR-5740 6.1 AVR thats only 2 years old but does not have any HDMI inputs. I want True HD lossless audio and was wondering if I traded in my Sony BDP-S 300 for a Panasonic DMPBD30 could I then get True HD lossless sound using my present Yamaha Receiver ? I am just about to bite the bullet and purchas a new Yamaha RX-V663BL receiver to get True HD audio. Thats another $500 but man I've come this far to finish my AV room so I just might do it. If it is possible to get True HD lossless audio through my multichannel outputs with the Panny BD then I will go that route and thats just a $50 difference. Hope someone can help me and I'm so glad I found this site

I can't answer your question exactly, but I know if you go with the Panny BD30 and would suggest at least the Onkyo 705 receiver, you are set for all encodes. Requires HDMI capability.

The Sony 300 has HDMI connectivity, but does not decode DTS HD MA lossless audio. Not sure about DD HD though. Your current receiver needs to be replaced though for sure. Thats where I would start first. Can you still return the Sony 300?

  1. Optical (Toslink) and Digital S/PDIF cables cannot carry Dolby Digital Plus, DTS HD High Resolution Audio, LPCM, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS HD Master audio signals. You need an HDMI cable.
  2. If the player converts the high definition signals to LPCM, any version of HDMI connection will successfully carry the signal.
  3. If the player decodes the high definition audio signals to Bitstream, the HDMI connections of the player and the receiver must be version 1.3.
  4. If multichannel analog cables are used to connect the player to the receiver, Bass Management must be performed by the player or the receiver must have the ability to perform bass management for analog signals.

Since your receiver does not have an HDMI cable, you will need a Blu-Ray player with Multi-Channel Analog output or you will have to purchase a new receiver.

So Big Daddy since the Panasonic does have multichannel outputs and is version 1.3 then it should work through the multichannel inputs of my Yamaha Receiver correct ? and yes Marcusarilius I can still trade my Sony BDP-S300 in since I have only had it 2 weeks. I just upgraded the firmware to 3.80 and it works so much better I love it but theres no Lossless audio with the BDP-300 So I'm hoping I can salvage my Yamaha receiver and still get lossless audio with the Panny BD player. Let me know if this will work, thank you

Version 1.3 applies only to HDMI. Multichannel analog output is for regular RCA cables and does not have a version number. If your receiver has analog inputs (usually 5 or 6), then the Panasonic should work. If I were in your position, I would upgrade my receiver.

Btw, the Panny BD30 don't decode anything but DD and DTS .. so it's pretty useless if you don't have a HBR Codec audio receiver (like the new ones). But the BD50, witch will be release soon, will decode Truehd, DTS HD MA, DTS HD HR, DD Plus, DD and DTS via Analogs and HDMI..
