Default Genius vs Genius? X

The Fountain vs Pans Labrynth?

I saw both in the theater and loved them. Both are very near the top of my "all time list". I recently watched both on Blu and discovered so much in each that I missed during my first viewing that it only more concretely solidified my belief the both directors are extremely Passionate and yes, Genius!

Example: Pans begins with such warmth of colors, the forest, the sunshine, the dirts, the clothes etc. As the story moves and darkens, so does the color scheme. Its slow and subtle and very linear to the point you dont notice it, yet it degrades to an almost B&W film as the story "degrades" to its darkest points. Not wholly original, but masterfully executed.

For those of you who enjoyed either or both of these films, I would love to hear some feedback. Which one is more genius and why? I cant pick, they are both that good.

For those who didnt like the films, please dont slag them here.

I've only seen each once, but overall I think I enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth more than The Fountain. I really need to watch The Fountain again though, as I had a lot of things distracting me when I watched it. After I finished watching it I did some research about it online and saw that there were quite a few things I missed.

Pan's was a bit of a surprise to me, as I was expecting more of the fantasy elements. The fact that most of the story took place in the regular world was not what I expected, but I liked the movie quite a bit. I was really surprised with some of the violence, especially the scene with the father and son and the bottle

I really need to see both again, but overall I think I liked Pan's Labyrinth better. I was really hoping Del Toro would end up doing at least one Harry Potter film (especially the last two) but alas . . . it will never be.

My exact thoughts. I was expecting waaaay more fantasy elements. Still a near perfect movie, but I entered in expecting something entirely different.
Still haven't seen The Fountain! I enjoyed Aronofsky's Pi (I give it a 7/10) and I loved Requiem for a Dream to death. I think Requiem is one of the most frightening movies I have ever seen.

When I watched The Fountain at home I turned off all phones and blackened the house because of the audio. His use of sound, and LACK OF was amazing. Watch it again when you can be interuption-free and listen to the SILENCE...its so perfect and so "loud"

Yes that scene in Pans really helps you understand why Ofelia goes so deeply into her "Kingdom"....YIKES

Requiem is a gem, I agree. PI was solid too. The fountain has a way different feel than other Aronofsky fliks. Odd to because in some ways it is exactly like his other works. The themes of struggle are there, but it is delivered in a much different package.

love love love the fountain, just ordered the bluray. I need to see pan's again badly. was distracted during my only viewing. I plan on ordering the blu after a couple of other new movies I'd like to see.

me and my friends were psyched for the fountain for MONTHS beforehand, and when it came out we mostly all liked it but the shock was realizing that the movie wasn't a big release at all haha. it was so important to our little circle that it surprised me quite a bit.

Since we're on the topic of Pan's, anyone know of where I can get the STEELBOOK edition on BLU-RAY? Supposedly it's gonna be the first steelbook edition on blu. It was on steelbook's website. Just curious if anyone had any info on the matter.

The Fountain bored me to sleep. I liked the acting, but the concept of the movie was lost on me. It lacked something, IMHO, that other movies of its ilk seem to have more of.

Pan's Labyrinth
was brilliant. Loved the fantasy and the majesty of it all, and the emotional rollercoaster. Very fine film. One of my favorite Blu-rays so far (and it was a blind buy, no less). Reminded me a lot of Neil Gaiman's books... dark, mysterious and full of personality.
