Computer Genius Needed!!! Help Me!!!

my son somehow turned off the wireless internet on my wife's laptop.

does anyone know where to find it in the compter and turn it back on??

sony vaio laptop w/vista.

and if someone tells me FN F2 i'm gonna smack you....everything online i find says to do this and it doesn't work!!!!

hook us up with a model number so at least I can take a look I know my sisters old vaio had a switch on the outside to turn it on and off.

Look for a button near the volume controls on the laptop. Might look like a satellit dish or something like a signal strength thingy, it won't be a physical button but smooth. If you press it it will light up. That's how it is on a lot of laptops.

See the buttons on the top left try the one to the left of the volume controls if your laptop looks similar.

and the switch is turned on but the card inside isn't turning on.

so i've got to figure out if there's a function key combination or somewhere i can go in and turn it back on.

Reset the switch and then right click the icon for the wifi to manually disconnect from the network and reconnect. Sometimes it will be weird for wifi.

I'm not on a windows pc now but this might help if you view you're networks you can/SHOULD be able to re establish a link to the network through that in the control panel.

Then that should bring up something that allows to refresh the networks you're computer can see and then you can find the name of you're home's network on a list like this

the connection isn't the problem, i'm using my laptop.

her laptop....the wireless card isn't turning on, so i can't even get to the point of connecting to the internet w/it.

Thats why you should go into the control panel and see if it is a sync problem.

If by you mean not turning on and she actually has a wireless card


like this then I'd say pop it out and reboot and see if that works, other wise it might have crapped out, I personally haven't spent much time with wireless cards, but if wont turn on start putting it in other computers and if you get the same thing then its more then likely dead.

it has an internal wireless card.....@ least that's what i'm assuming.

there's nothing sticking out of it anywhere.

mmmmmk, so like I sugguested before bring up the wireless network page in the control panel and tell us what you see(should bring up you're home network and maybe neighbors if their within range).

also as a last resort you can quick restore you're pc to like yesterday (takes about 5 minutes at the most) that should also change any settings that might have gotten mixed up.

Yeah it's an internal card. So the wifi switch works on the top of the keyboard? Other devices connect wirelessly also to the network?

Yeah both are true, he said the switch is on, and he is connected wirelessly with his own laptop

thats why I suggested seeing if he can play around with settings in the control panel maybe it just got disconnected and needs to be manual reestablished to his nw.

i've been in the wireless management page quite a bit and all it's giving me the option to do is disable or enagle certain connections.

i'm gonna try a restore to 3 a.m. this morning.

I know when I've switched routers up and the IP's and connections get all jacked up the restore always switches it back to the router that was active that day and that usually fixes it. Good LUCK.

also, i'm writing this from my wife's laptop!!!

the restore to this morning did the trick....now i'm gonna have the wife add a password so if he gets it open again, he can't do anything.
