Was not sure were to post this question regarding 7 channels of audio information on Blu-ray discs because it is pertinent to BD discs, players, and processors.
Common answer by the sellers of players, and surround processors is that no Blu-ray disc has 7 channels of discrete audio output so 7 channel is really not necessary. All discs have only 5.1 discrete channels of audio and to get 7.1 output you need a codex like Logic7 from Lexicon that will create audio in the rear channels. So the common response is real 7.1 is not here yet, and you have no need for a 7.1 analog output on your BD player, and for HDMI audio conversion their is no need to move 7 channels of audio into the processor because it does not exist. Question, what is the general consensus regarding true 7.1 sound on BD discs, BD players, and processors? When can we expect to see real 7.1 audio on BD discs? What surround processors will support a true 7 channel audio output? How will a vendor like Lexcon process a 7 channel audio into their Logic7? Will they just ignore the rear channels, and matrix their own 7 channel mix. Would you folks buy a processor that does not address the 7.1 audio? Input, ideas, comments? Thanks |

There are many movies with 7.1 discrete channel on blu-ray now. Here's some of them:
3:10 to Yuma Pan's Labyrinth Shoot 'Em Up Most new receivers are capable of 7 channel audio now. And they have Dloby Pro-Logic IIx to matrix the surround channels of a 5.1 source into the the surround back speakers of your 7.1 setup. This is what exacly my setup, only mine is 6.1 (still undecided to get the 7th speaker). |

As stated above there are many 7.1 discrete blu-rays already out, and with DTS HD MA there will be plenty more to come.
To add to list posted above is also: Good Luck Chuck War Condemned House of 1000 Corpses Saw IV Rambo (coming soon) and EVERY Newline Cinemas blu-ray release is 7.1 There are many more as well. Last edited by koukikat; 03-27-2008 at 12:09 AM. |
