Default I blew my left tweeter

I was watching Independence Day with the volume very loud. During the scene when they operate on the alien that Will Smith captured, the screeching sound of the alien squealing caused my left tweeter to blow! At least the midrange cone in the Bose speaker is still intact, but now it sounds like it's been castrated and only emits a weak, muffled sound.

Has anyone ever experienced a blown tweeter before?

I am going to take my blown tweeter to Best Buy and see if the Geek Squad can service my unit.

I have never had that experience even though many others on this site have mentioned it. (Crossing Fingers and knocking on Wood) I haven't had anything blow on me yet. Probably just a matter of time though. I crank my system up all the time, but nothing yet. Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the BB geeks can service you to a satisfactory conclusion.

I'm not set up for 6.1 surround at this time. There don't seem to be many adaptors for this set-up either. 6.1 is something I have been thinking about though.

Man, I blew my left tweeter once and I couldn't walk straight for a week...

and if I was castrated I would only emit a weak muffled sound too...

Sorry, couldn't resist...

If you were listening at very loud volume it's very possible during a dynamic passage that you blew your speaker. I'm sorry to tell you this but Geek Squad is unlikely to have a fix for you. If the speaker is blown you are most likely going to have to get a new speaker to replace it. Or upgrade to a better set of speakers.

Was there a high-pitch shriek when your tweeter blew?

I actually hope that my pair are going to hang around for a few more years. If my blown tweeter can be yanked off and a new one screwed in then my tweeter should be back to full power.

Yes, in therory. But will it timber match the other tweeter? What if the difference is so pronounced, it makes your system unbalanced or seem drab compared to the original tweeter still in place?

Only my left tweeter is blown - not the whole thing. The other Bose speaker is fine so I don't really want to replace both speakers. If the Geek Squad cannot help me with my blown tweeter, then I will go to some other place to get it serviced. I will only replace my blown tweeter. However, if my blown tweeter cannot be restored to full strength, only then will I consider getting a new set of speakers. I hope the Best Buy Geek Squad can come through and take care of my blown tweeter. I wonder how much they will charge for this type of service?
