Default My sub blew?

I put it on as I normally do and for some reason a few minutes later I heard some rumbling coming from the speaker. It is my second sub in the room and it a JBL venue 10, it is running from a Y cable with my def tech supercube.
Whe I inspected the speaker I smelled something burning and pulled the rca out of the sub. As I did I felt air pressure from the input and yanked it out. I then unplugged the power cable.
The rca cable looks fine but if you look straight into it the surface looks black like if it burned. The sub smelled burned for while but has since gone away. I plugged in the sub and it now gets no response, I wasnt expecting it too but just wanted to be sure. The power light comes on but thats it..

Anyone know what could of happen?

Oh and my other sub is fine......thank god..LoL. I dont mind losing the JBL but not my DEF tedh.

I was loving the sounds of two subs though...

Details: my sub was turned alittle more than half way to keep up with the other sub.

It's just a guess, but it sounds to me like something burned up inside the amp.

+1

The amp may be fried, and if so, presents you with an interesting situation. If it's not under warranty, you can always try replacing the plate amplifer on the JBL sub and get it working again - as long as the driver is not fried along with the amp.

If you know the output power of your JBL sub's amplifier, you can purchase a new plate amp of the same output. If the driver can handle more power, you may be able to purchase a more powerful amplifier. You just have to make sure that it will fit properly into the opening left when you remove your burned out amp without air leaks. It may be a fun project to try.

Here's a recent forum thread discussing sub amps:

In case you want to buy a new sub amplifier and the manufacturer doesn't sell any, check the following links. Make sure you buy one that is approximately the same size. Otherwise, you would have to modify the opening on the back of the sub.

Before I'd buy a new amp I would check the amp and drive. But that's me I would suggest tesing the amp first. All you would need is a volt meter.

Check the fuse on the amp inside the sub, it might be a $5 fix, i have had this happen to one of my older subs.

Welcome to the club man. I had the two little bose cube speakers 10 years ago for my bedroom. They lasted me like two years. You can't do nothing with the sub that comes with it, it's so weak. I blew that sub at least 2-3 times. The problem with Bose is that you have to send it away to get it fixed and you can't buy seperate subs from them. I will never go with Bose again. They are overrated.

Ya thanks for all the advice guys.

I havent even moved the amp yet but I think I might tinker with it. I was thinking it would be a cool project. Yes I believe something in the amp is fried and I am hoping the sub is okay. If not then it just makes a bigger project.

I still need to check if it is under some kid of warranty but I am really not that concerned about it.

And thanks for those links bigdaddy I will look into them..

That sucks, next thing to do is smell the circuit board to find out what got fried if the problem isn't visible. Keep us posted

Yes it does suck.

I do plan on ripping it apart but it wont be for a little while. I have my sons B day coming up and I am planning a big halloween party. So I have a bunch of house work and things that need to get done.
If thats not enough I started tinkering with my NITRO RC car again and thats another time consuming hobby.

But ya I will take some pics when I rip the sub apart to see what you all think...
