Default Big Collections vs. crappy movies

I just bought a PS3 and decided to buy my first blu ray movie. I also recently purchased a 40" Sony 1080p LCD.

I'm pretty excited about Blu Ray but still shying away from purchasing because of the whole vs. HD DVD thing..

I've noticed some people posting there "super large" collections of Blu rays.. Do these people actually watch the movies or just collect the Blu Ray cases??

I lean more on quality over quanity myself. My want list:

Black Hawk Down
Saving Private Ryan
We Were Soldiers
Indiana Jones Triology
Fight Club
Predator
Band of Brothers
Snatch

It's a combination of things. I buy Blu-ray movies to help support the format, to enjoy the boost in audio/video quality, and to "collect the Blu-ray cases".

I have a broad taste in many different types of movies (look at my DVD collection). If you have a PS3, you might as well start buying movies you want to see. You already have the hardware, so I no longer see your logic in "shying away from purchasing" Blu-ray titles because of the war. The title costs are on par with each other. Enjoy the new format you have bought into (Blu-ray for games and movies)!

I intend on watching all of my movies at least once. I like collecting BDs and helping out the format. I get pretty good prices on the movies, and I've never been one for renting, so if I'm remotely interested in seeing a movie, I buy it. Since I don't buy DVDs anymore, except for special occasions, my BD collection is on the rise.

Some people have every single BR that has come out..which isnt all that impressive considering some of the movies arent worth the box they come in..

I think BR might make more in sales if they skip putting in the actual cds altogether and just sell the boxes empty. I mean who would watch SWAT and The Lake House lol???

I'm assuming the BR collectors who buy every single crappy movie that comes out must have thousands of crappy DVDs as well? Have you been able to unload them on ebay? or maybe trade in 20 dvds at atime for like 6 bucks??

Try not be so judgemental. Try this modern adage: "Every movie has its fan."

From your want list, it sounds like you're an action film guy. That doesn't invalidate the billions in box office that romantic comedies or comedies have raked in.

I'm pretty sure more then one person here will buy Gigli because its on BR.

Movie companies can make a fortune just converting straight to video movies to BR as well and people will buy them just to have them.

Some people aren't well rounded with their tastes in movies and that is fine. Just don't critize others that have broad interests and the resources to purchase what they want.

I bought about 65 Blu-ray movies in the first 3 weeks and watched one every night since I started buying them except for one. I guess I'm getting my monies worth in a short period of time!

Impressive! I've definitely gotten my worth out of them and will continue to get a lot more out them for years to come.

True that! Of course my wife says it's something of a "sickness".
