Default Onkyo 805 Question

I have my PS3 connected to my 805 with HDMI. I am also running 5.1
What is the best setting on the 805 to watch blu-ray movies. I currently am using THX Cinema setting.

i would like to set and forget it.

I keep my Pioneer Elite on THX Cinema...but to say which is the best? it really depends on you...but id only use for movies:

Pure Audio
Direct
Multichannel
Dolby PrologicIIx Movie
THX Cinema

....try them out, and go with what you like.

cable/sat = Dolby PrologicIIx Movie
Gaming = Not sure, I usually play in the bedroomroom...no receiver,only tv speakers. If I play in the living room through my receiver its on last valid (?) ....I don't game too much.

So why do you go "Dolby PrologicIIx Movie" for cable and not THX Cinema?

mainly because the quality is sub par. No real reason...just for cable its not a big deal.

I always go for as little extra processing that is allowed. The majority of these sound settings that can be applied are gimmicky at best.

When playing the movies use the preset listening modes:
GOTO DVD in your preset settings for listening modes
For Bluray
Then use DOLBY TRUE HD = DOLBY TRUE HD
DTS HDMA = DTSHDMA

For stereo sources(music)
Use Neural THX 5.1

For Cable
Dolby Digital = Dolby Digital
Dts = Dts
Dolby digital 2.0 = Neural THX 5.1
Analog = Neural THX 5.1

I like personally neural THX 5.1 coz it decodes the 2 channel sources to 5.1..Since you are using a 5.1 set up you can try Neural THX 5.1..Personally I like it..Again it depends on your taste..

Hope it helps..
