Before they release this they should do his other films first. At the top of that list should be Rushmore.

If I'm not mistaken, Bottle Rocket is getting the Criterion treatment this fall which means a simultaneous release on DVD and Blu-Ray

I almost picked up this movie on SDVD ( ) last weekend... For those of you guys that have seen it, how does it compare with Wes Anderson's other films? I liked the other films, but havent picked it up yet because I had a few other titles a little higher up on my list.

The GF has watched all his movies and she really liked it. I almost feel asleep. You can get the DVD for $10 from Netflix.

if you like his other films, you'll like this one too. it's a good flick. it's a little sexier than his other films, and visually pleasing all together.

it's actually two films. there's a short and a full length feature.

I didn't love it. The characters a very distinct and they all round out very well in the end. The movies quite dry on the acting and humor (intentional) so naturally its very uninspired acting wise so its not exactly my cup of tea. It is a very good movie, just fans appreciate it a lot more than I do.

#10 on my ten best list. But not holding my breath. I'm waiting more for ROYAL TENENBAUMS to go Blu, and I think Fox Searchlight will try to get as much blood out of the stones that are JUNO and NAPOLEON DYNAMITE before they get around to DARJEELING. Wasn't one of their big hits last year.

This was already skipped over for Blu-ray release when the dvd came out so it doesn't look on the horizon anytime soon. I would love to see Rushmore on Blu-ray.

Arise, Dead Thread. Pick up your mat and walk.

Any rumblings on Darjeeling updates? REALLY looking forward to this release, but haven't heard anything since it was first mentioned as a Criterion release. Any updates?

Except for the placeholder at Amz, i have no new info

http://www.amazon.com/Darjeeling-Lim...d=J0RDVJ7MGC89

I'm a huge Wes fan, haven't seen it at the movies though. Was really disappointed when it wasn't released together with the DVD. When i was about to finally break down and watch the DVD, i learned of the possible Criterion release. So now i'm waiting for this one to pop my darjeeling cherry.

I had a dream last night that I picked up Life Aquatic, Darjeeling Limited (only in my dream, it was called "Rifle" or something), and Fantastic Mr. Fox.

Which is odd, because I can't stand Wes Anderson. Apparently my subconscious just LOVES the guy.

However, this weird dream brought up a question I never really even thought about: Why didn't Criterion release Fantastic Mr. Fox? Don't they release ALL his movies?

See, I can't STAND Life Aquatic. It still strikes me as esoteric just for the sake of being esoteric. And it's SO disjointed it just sucks, I hate to say it. I find nothing funny or comedic about the dialog. No wry irony. I can't even call it smart. Was so disappointed with it. The only stinker in the bunch I've seen (Rushmore, Darjeeling, Bottle Rocket, Tennenbaums, Life Aquatic)

Criterion has the rights, and I'm pretty sure I read they have it slated for blu-ray release sometime this year. I think they posted it on Facebook in one of their MANY posts.
Of course, it's Criterion, so their release plans will probably change. I think we're still waiting for titles they promised when they launched their Blu-ray line, what, 3 years ago.
They did Bottle Rocket on Blu, it's good. I think it gets better when you watch it a couple times. I thought they'd have Rushmore out by now.

I'm not sure what you are talking about but Criterion announced their Blu-ray plans in May 2008 (that's two years ago) and have released everything from their initial list exept Contempt, because they lost rights for that title.

The Darjeeling Limited is expected to be released later this year.

I don't believe that's true, but I certainly hope it is. Both Darjeeling Limited and Mr. Fox are distributed by Fox who have never been up for sharing with Criterion. There has been a rumor floating around about a Darjeeling Criterion Release - which would be awesome - but the rumor came from an Amazon placeholder link.

The Criterion Newsletter and Facebook pages, which drop hints all the time haven't yet dropped anything about this to my knowledge. But there is quite a bit of discussion on it at the Criterion thread.

I hope you're right though. I'd love both.
