Everything except Bottle Rocket (and Rushmore also had a separate bare bones release)....which should be getting a Criterion release date soon. I think this is Anderson's first film outside of Buena Vista so Fox is handling the DVD for the first time. As much as I loved this movie, I will not be picking it up until it comes to Blu.

What was the specific hook for HD for Sunshine?
Darjeeling Limited is such a visual film that it would be well-suited for HD. |

I'm not so sure how essential a BD release is for Darjeeling (but I'll take it), but The Life Aquatic would be amazing with BD pq.

The visuals of Sunshine are the hook for HD. The detail of the Sun, the aurora borealis streaking over the panels during the ship repair, looking at mercury, etc.

I must agree that the visual impact of Darjeeling was one of its most redeeming qualities. It is truly a beatiful movie. If there is any hope that it will come to BD, I recommend holding out.

While Sunshine had some visually-impressive shots, Darjeeling had many more and to a greater effect. Also, the visuals are thematic and constant, and create a much larger impact on the viewer than the visuals in Sunshine. Sunshine seemed to rely more on editing/sequencing and visual effects than on spatial or color significance. The only surprising formal element that stuck out to me in Sunshine was the way the final scene was edited, with the stretched aspect ratios and the freezeframes. I would have to prefer Darjeeling much more than Sunshine to experience in detail.
Wes Anderson, like Peter Greenaway, is a filmmaker with a painter's scope. Last edited by lebatte; 03-03-2008 at 07:23 PM. |

I'm a fan of Wes Anderson. Been waiting for Darjeeling in Blu. Hope Criterion puts "Harold and Maude" on their list as well, it having such a big influence on Anderson's work.

I couldn't wait. I bought Darjeerling on regular DVD and it looked great with the up-conversion of the PS3. I would definitely prefer the title on Blu-Ray, but I dropped $15 on the DVD which I will hand down to a "non-blu" friend once the title is released in HD.
I hadn't seen the film before I watched it on tuesday evening, and I was not disappointed. The life Aquatic is one of my favorite movies of all time and the Darjeerling might be my second favorite Anderson movie so far. I higly recommend this title to anyone willing to revert to standard DVD for a single title. It was my first DVD purchase since buying my PS3 over a year ago. |

I also want this on Blu Ray along with all the other Wes Anderson films.
I remember watching it when the train gets "lost". And I remember saying to myself "how the hell can it be lost if it's on a track" and then like two seconds later Owen Wilson says "how can we be lost? We're on a track" ha ha ha ha.... |

100% agree. My favorite Anderson film. Go Team Zassou.
Darjeeling Limited was gorgeously shot...but lacks something in the story. Not sure what...but it left me feeling empty. I'd probably buy it on blu though, then mute the audio and play my own soundtrack to it. |
