For picture quality the Sony SXRD sets are better quality then the Bravia sets. SXRD has 10,0000:1 contrast ratio with 2.5 ms response time which is great for watching fast action movies. The Bravia LCD screen is more expensive because of the nice thin size for hanging on the wall. The Sony BRAVIA LCD screens have only 8ms response time with contrast ratios of 7,000:1. While in this day and age 7,000:1 contrast ratio is currently excellent when compared to other LCD screens on the market it is not as good as the SXRD rear projector sets.
For better picture quality go with the SXRD if you have the room for rear projection. If this is for a small room then LCD is thin and small to hang on the wall. Also keep in mind about every year or two you need to replace the SXRD projector light bulb for $249 which is a small price to pay for such a large screen with improved picture quality. |

Is the 10,000:1 contrast ratio with auto Iris on or off on the SXRD, and is it full on/full off contrast, or ANSI? (ANSI CR is more important to me in overall image quality, as a lens tends to degrade simultaneous contrast greatly)
The difference between 10,000:1 and 7,000:1 in maximum black is 0.5 f-stop darker for the 10,000:1 |
