Default PS3 and it's lack of RPG's. Read and Sign

OK everyone I don't know if this is posted here or not (frankly the more posts the better) As a long time supporter or the Playstation brand I feel that Sony is ignoring the Japanese RPG fans out there. We have heard nothing as far as new announcements in this genre in a very long time and with very few games in this category even being in development I think it's high time Sony start thinking about getting more support. Developers like Namco Bandai are being swayed by Microsofts big pockets with titles like Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia being put exclusively on their platform. Though this is not just Namco, Square Enix is also giving more support elsewhere then the Playstation brand. This is a bad sign and, something that needs to be addressed ASAP.

Final Fantasy 7 shaped and pushed the PSone to where it is today and many of us who bought a Playstation did so for the JRPG's that at one time Playstation was synonymous with. I do not plan to ever own another of those "other" consoles from Brand X for numerous reasons based on my experiences, though they seem more interested in taking care of the JRPG fans then Sony does. It's time Sony realize that they will continue to loose sales in this area if it continues, we don't need any more First Person Shooters the Halo phenomenon is limited to that series and dumping money into more games like that to try and play "me too!" with Microsoft is a big mistake. Playstation is known from having a variety of software including a very healthy RPG selection, and I would hope Sony would want those fans to buy a PS3. I realize that RPG's take a huge amount of time to develop but, some announcements would be nice so that RPG fans could know that at least more then 2 games were in development, and that Sony is willing to show that the Playstation Brand is the "go to" for RPG fans.

Below you will find a link to an online petition that I would ask all RPG fans to sign. Regardless of how useless you think online petitions are I would still ask you to sign and post the link as many places as possible. Even posting here will gather attention to this so I hope this message reaches those within these boards who care and that Sony acknowledges that they have not forgotten us.

Eternal Sonata is being ported to PS3 too. So Tales of Vesperia may be time exclusive as well, since Namco would have to be crazy to ignore the PS3 market with one of their biggest franchises - especially considering how poorly the 360 is doing in Japan.

I think RPG's have kinda gone into a down period as far as popularity. Same thing happened about a year or so before ff7 came out. Genres come and go, and then come again. I wouldnt mind seeing a really good one though come out, kinda of an old school one would be real nice.

Its funny that the 360 has way more JRPG's the the PS3 at the time, but thats because microsoft has been passing the moneyhat in japan to whoever will take it. They wont get the RPG's that matter tho, like Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts. They are just getting the left overs. So while they do have some good JRPG's atm, the ones that actually matter will never be on the 360.

I would not go as far as to say never. Never is a mighty long time and money can change anything.

50 leftovers is better than 3 prime ribs....3 prime ribs that still aren't served yet.

I say that as an owner of both systems and a huge fan of all RPGs in general. You can't really knock the 360 at this point when compared to the PS3 in this area.

And a few of those "leftovers" have proven to be very enjoyable.

Folklore was not a real JRPG more of an action game. Enchanted Arms......well for many reasons I did not pick that one up. Still the reality here is that traditional JRPG's are severely lacking on the PS3 and where beter to make noise then the internet. Outside of Final Fantasy XIII and white Knight and Disgaea 3 PS3 has had little to notihng in the way of new game announcements as far as JRPG's go. This is an important genre for me as a gamer, imagine if PS3 only had one or two FPS's most would not be able to stand it. This is not the case however as the PS3 is home to far too many FPS games and while some are great this is a Playstation not an Xbox, so I want some new RPG's to get excited for dag nabbit!

Exclamation RPG Neglect

OK, I would prefer western RPG's i.e Oblivion, but Japanese ones are good too.
I do agree about the lack of PS3 titles out there for the genre.
It was the same story on the PS2, so why let it happen again.
Come on Sony! Come on third party developers!

Yes, the PS3 needs more rpg(s) and Sony should open up they're pocket and get Square Enix & Namco as exclusives.

"No Plans" For NA Release "At The Moment" and "not releasing" the game are two very different statements. Especially if there's a time exclusivity deal in place.

I had noticed RPGs as a genre have been dying slowly, for the computer there used to be tons of different party based RPGs (Might and Magic (haven't seen a new one), Wizardry (gone probably forever), D&D gold box (went to the Baldur's Gate, and think those are still churning out). Now it seems like everything is going to the one character first person view hack and slash RPG, which I myself can't stand. I switched more to console gaming to get the party based RPGs, and on the PS2, there were tons of them, some of which excelled, and others that didn't. The Mana series, Star Ocean, Final Fantasy, Legend of Dragoon, and tons more that I picked up randomly.

The PS3 seems to have been seriously lacking in this field lately, and I hope the sales of the upcoming RPGs make developers notice, that while yes, it's not as popular as GTA, or Halo that it is STILL a strong market force.

RPGs are fun, but are now lame because of all the Multiplayer-Only ones that take over your life and leave you a shell of a person.

What ever happened to RPGs that were solid Non-Multiplayer?

FF Tactics or FF VII?

While I too love RPG games, you people need to understand it takes longer to make a good RPG game than just about any other game. I think it took Bethesda something like 5+ years to make Oblivion. If we could just get five really good companies to put in 5 years for each RPG then we could have one great RPG a year... instead we get like two every 5 years that's even worth a crap.

Even Final Fantasy has betrayed the core reason we even play RPGs. The storyline. If we wanted action & graphics then we'd play Halo or Half-Life 2 or some other similar FPS game. We need more Turn-based RPGs with an awesome story and 100+ hours of gameplay. Graphics should be an after thought. Music is also very important for setting the mood.

My point is, we don't need quantity.. we need quality. A truely awesome RPG should last you several months if you take your time and do every little side quest and gather every single item possible.
