Default A Director's Cut of "Mimic" Coming?

From ShockTillYouDrop.com (Original Source: Rotten Tomatoes)

Quote:
- "Rotten Tomatoes got some quality time with Guillermo Del Toro to talk not just about Hellboy but other films in his career, too, including the director's 1997 film Mimic.

His first U.S. effort, the film starred Mira Sorvino against giant cockroaches that could take a rough human guise. The experience was troubling for Del Toro, to say the least. Dimension Films tampered with the final cut and the results were scattershot.

Del Toro tells RT that it would be "worth going back [to Mimic] for me," to do a director's cut "and I'm trying to do it. It'll not make a massive difference, but I think tonally it will." He adds, "It's not going to be the Director's Cut to end all Director's Cuts, it's just going to make a minute difference to a movie that is not a lost classic by any stretch of the imagination but I do believe the screenplay is really good and I urge people to read it on the net."

What would change, though? "I would retrieve those fake scares, I would put back some of the other content, and I would hope it makes a different. But who knows?"

I think a Director's cut of Mimic can improve the movie a lot. We all know how the executives pushed Guillermo to change the tone of the story. That's why Mimic is his only flawed work.

I don't think a director's cut can make miracles but Guillermo can achieve something closer to what he intended originally. Something closer to his original vision.

I mean if Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone, etc. can make several "director's cuts" from some of their most flawed works (Kingdom of Heaven, Alexander), even when they are the only ones to blame (not the studio executives).
Then why not to allow Guillermo to revisit a movie that was hampered by the studio?

I will buy Mimic, DC or not. Not a "good film", but a movie that will hit the spot once in a while.

Mimic actually surprised me. I really liked this movie and look forward to the Director's Cut.

I hope we get a boxset on Blu-ray with the whole trilogy. I picked up the second film on DVD when I lived in Germany. It's not bad for a straight to video flick, plus it continues right off where the first film ends.
