Default DVI to HDMI cable or DVI to HDMI video adapter?

I'm trying to get the best picture when connecting my HD satellite receiver to my HDTV. The HD satellite receiver has DVI out but no HDMI.

Should I use a DVI to HDMI adapter and then use a HDMI cable from the adapter to the TV or should I use a DVI to HDMI cable?

I have the hardware for either setup.

Thanks,
Zak

Unless you personally own that satellite receiver, why don't you upgrade it to one that has HDMI outputs?

I do own it but the satellite provider does not make an HD unit with HDMI out yet

DVI is essentially the same.

get a HDMI-DVI cable, as an "adapter" can have some connectivity/handshake issues.

DO NO USE AN ADAPTOR

I REPEAT

DO NOT USE AN ADAPTOR

The picture quality is I'd say 50% better when you go straight from DVI to HDMI. Do not use a DVI to HDMI adaptor, then a HDMI cable. For some reason that reduces the picture quality.

Trust me, I have experience with this. At first I connected my Playstation 3 to my DVI monitor by using a DVI cord that connected to a HDMI Female then male adaptor.

After 1 year I then bought a DVI to HDMI cord for $40 with no adaptors, just straight DVI to HDMI, and the difference was NIGHT AND DAY. I was stunned by the difference not using an adaptor could make. I'd say the difference was almost 50% better picture quality. Probably more like 30% but it felt like 50%.

I originally bought the adapter as I knew that DVI was being phased out so instead of buying a dedicated DVI to HDMI cable that would be useless in a year I thought it made more sense to buy an HDMI cable and connect it to the adapter.
