Default DVI Cable Using two HDMI connectors??

Hello,

I just got a HC1500 to replace my Infocus 4805 and I have been happy with the decision. I have had a problem with it tho...Just laid carpet and covered my long DVI cable run to ceiling mounted FP. Upgraded to HD on DTV and now have HDMI on both ends and want to use DVI Cable..I bought two HDMI connectors and thought it would work, but says no signal?? When I connect to the DVI out of my HTPC I get a signal with a connector on one side at the projector. Is it not possible to use two conncectors on one DVI cable??

It should work fine. The adapters are electrical. They are just converting connectors and hooking up the right lines.

Maybe the HDMI source isn't generating a clean signal and it has degraded. Or the other adapter is faulty.

There will be a small signal loss (say -3dB) across any connector. Perhaps you're just over the edge with the run and two connectors. How long a run do you have?

The run is around 35 ft. Any ideas? I would hate to have to rip up the carpet and buy an HDMI cable that long..

Here is a 35ft cable from our friends at monoprice.com:

35' HDMI 1.3a

Unfortunately it's on back-order, but it was the only one they had at that length.

This one is available now, but it is not 1.3a. That shouldn't be an issue if you are not transmitting the audio to the projector.

35' HDMI

hmm i would try another hdmi source and if that still won't work try a new adapter on the source end, then you could try an hdmi extender to amplify the signal and if that won't work im sorry to say it's time for a new cable if you do have to get a new cable look into the bluejeanscable series-1 i am running it at 40feet without any problems

Adapters degrade the signal through addiional connectionsd a small amount, an with a 35' run and adapters at both ends, you are probably just nudging it over the edge of signal lock.

And I agree on the Blue Jeans Belden sourced cables. Most HDMI cables are probably going to work even at 35', but the Beldens are really high quality (in the engineering sense) cables, as their sweep testing data shows. I have a 50' one that works great even at 1080p60.

this would be my guess.

question to the OP so I can understand correctly. From what you said, your old projector was DVI...what source did you have it connected to that is also DVI?

Usually people use an HDMI-DVI Cable...so you are using a standard DVI cable?

I expect that you are using a DVI cable to connect your source to the projector but through DVI to HDMI adapters at both ends. This is a straight forward electrical conversion and should work without problems. As previous posters have suggested try a different source and also a short cable if possible. Check settings at both ends. The issue may not be the cable.

Also be very careful not to plug/unplug HDMI while equipment is working because the HDMI plug has the potential to damage equipment when plugged/unplugged while working.
