Default will a DVI to HDMI cable produce audio

I want too hook up my pc to my lcd tv. will the cable produce audio if i have it hooked up to my TV or receiver?...or will i have to still purchase a 3.5mm audio cable?

DVI cable carries video signal only. You need audio cables.

actually it depends on the video card...some video cards send the audio through the dvi knowing that it'll only work with a dvi to hdmi adaptor

The DVI cable does not carry audio. What you have in that link is a sepcial adapter that converts DVI video and audio to HDMI. You still need an HDMI cable to carry both video and audio.
