I honestly can't detect anything happening when I switch between Normal and Full.

Is that normal?

No, it's not normal. Not if you're using a widescreen TV. That is unless you have your TV automatically displaying everything to "full."

If that's the case, then you're watching pretty much everything distorted.

My TV is 16:9. A film still looks the same whether it's Normal or Full.

What's meant to happen?

Lemon,

Do you have anything that's 4:3 like episodes of the Simpsons for example?

If you put in something 4:3 it should have black (or grey) bars on the sides of the image. If you're TV is setup correctly then having the PS3 set to normal will send out 4:3 correctly window-boxed with black bars on the sides. If your PS3 is set to full it will stretch the image eliminating the bars on the sides.

Then if you put in something encoded for 16:9 (any blu ray for example) you will be using the whole screen.

It's surprisingly hard to explain but it's really not very complicated.

EDIT- I was hoping this thread would be about the less obvious PS3 DVD settings like block noise reduction, frame noise reduction, moquito noise reduction.

Yes, normal means 4:3 displays correctly, but that seems to be the only difference. Is that the only difference between using Normal and Full? I thought these settings were meant to be resolution options like 720p and 1080p.

So this is also valid for something 4:3 in Blu ray disc and not only for SDDVD?

Thanks in advance.

so which would be the best settings for the extra settings, IE:

Mosquito noise reduction: 1, 2, 3

Frame noise reduction: 1, 2, 3

Black noise reduction: 1, 2, 3

right now i have everything set to: 3, and the Upscaler to (Full)

Star Wars Episode IV looks great for such an old movie and on DVD
