Can anyone tell me if the play station 3 will do regular dvd up scaling to 1080p

yup and its a very good upscale too but however it wont be as good as blu-ray quality but still makes a great dvd upscaler

watching regular tv on my lcd tv last night ,it seemed darker than usual .is that an issue with lcd tv's???

I was disappointed with the quality of the scaling at first with my PS3, but it has improved considerably sometime in the last several firmware updates. I have not seen that documented, but I do not think that it is my imagination either. I am seeing much, much fewer jaggies than I used to.
