Talking Eraser BD on hand

I hope this is the right forum. If it's not; moderators please move it to the appropriate one.

I just got my copy of Eraser yesterday 08/19/08 from Warner Bros (2 weeks before the release date of Sep 2).

I love Schwarzenegger but also remember not particularly enjoying this movie. I think it was around the Jingle All The way/Batman & Robin mid 90s era. Dark times, indeed.

Default Eraser first impressions

PQ: TV: 42" Sanyo Plasma 720P but PS3 set to feed 1080i. (TV is 4 years old and not pro calibrated).

The PQ is not demo quality. But with the age of the movie, I would say it is okay. According to my eyes it is clean enough. There are some scenes that are really beautiful with some nice details (Arnold leather jacket, Vanessa's face that shows some acne). But it is not WOW, THAT"S HIGH DEF. It is more like a clean old film.

As far as the bit rate, the video averages around 12-16-19. There was a low spot of 9 and there was a one-time peak of 37.9. By the way, it is a VC-1 encode. I would give it a score of 3/5 or 3.5/5

The SQ, however, is superior to the PQ. Again, it isn't 5 stars but it is nice, loud and pleasing to the ears (especially the gunfire from that super weapon). There is more than enough bass and surrounds use. The lossless is definitely lossless.

The Dolby True HD track averages between 1.8-2.9 bit rate.
I would give it a score of 4/5.

I would recommend getting it. I am happy with it. If U like the movie, get it. If U don't like it, get it still to entertain Ur ears.

Disclaimer: I am not a professional reviewer. This review is according to my eyes, ears and old ass (4 years old) Sanyo Plasma 720P set at 1080i. Don't blame me if U or any pro reviewers think otherwise.

Last edited by seigneur_rayden; 08-20-2008 at 04:13 PM. Reason: Added size of TV

You review was excellent!! Thank you very much.

It sounds like what I expected. I seem to remember the film having a diffused look, particularitly with scenes with Vanessa.

I remember ERASER was the first film I saw theatrically in SDDS and I remember being VERY impressed, particularily with the sound of the pulse weapon.

I've not seen the film in several years as my DVD copy seems M.I.A., however i'm really looking forward to owning this one in 2 weeks.

Thanks(spared my wrath ). I hope people do this in the future and not just tell us that they got the movie early. So to summarize, PQ is about 4/5(added points because of your tv ) I know the AQ will be sick anyway, especially the airplane scene. I think this is definitely a buy for me.
