Default Solid 2.0 Speaker Set-Up Suggestions?

Okay. So I've finally nailed it down. I'm getting the Onkyo 606 receiver and Sennheiser HD-595 headphones so I won't wake my neighbors at night since that is when I'll be watching the majority of my blus.

BUT, I do have the space for a 2.0 speaker set-up for when I'm watching just regular TV or gaming or possibly having people over to watch a movie. So what are good right and left BOOKSHELF speakers? Since I may buy my own house in the near future, it'd be great if they could be of decent quality so I could just use the same 2 speakers in the expansion from 2.0 to 5.1/7.1 in the future. So, what are a good pair of speakers I could get for this proposed set up for a $500 budget?

Thanks for any help! This forum has been very helpful in making my home theater decisions so far.

I just got a full 7.1 setup from Axiom and I have been really impressed. these bookshelves fit your budget and you will love the sound. Prior to these I have had Klipsch which I think are overrated and Paradigm which I would also recommend.

Polk RTi A1 bookshelfs $349.95pr got a decent review in the newest Stereophile magazine. Review may be available on website. They have a nice wood veneer cabinet and their siblings are at an affordable price also. They should be available everywhere too.

You may want to upgrade to the RTi A3 bookshelfs for better performance though. $459.95 pr steps up to a 6.5" mid-woofer.

You might want to check out the Revel Conceta series and Mordaunt Short if you're in the mood. May take a little more work to audition these brands though but definitely worth it.

Hope it is of help......................

One of the best pairs of bookshelf speakers under $1000. Ascend also makes a pair of 340s closer to your price range.
