Default Soundstage Presents: Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - Nov. 11, 2008

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movies.php?id=1165

If this show had more of my favorite Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers songs I'd get it, but it's cool to see them releasing Soundstage concerts.

Does anyone have any comments on this title please? According to the site db, 234 guys have it. Surprised to see so little discussion despite TP's popularity.

If you do a little clicking around, you'll see that that is a database error wherein this site is simply pulling info from a rogue, solitary listing by a doofus Marketplace seller listing the title at that price. Amazon oddly has two ASINs for this title: the one you're referring to (B001EAWM8S) and the correct one (B005V4X8TK).

Search Amazon for those ASINs and you'll see. Typing in "tom petty soundstage blu-ray" brings up the latter, correct listing where we see that there are copies selling for as cheap as $4.30 as of this moment.

Again, content comments from anyone who has the disc appreciated. E-mailing members directly tends to not get as prompt of a response but I'll try that as well. Thanks.

I paid $1.00 for my blu-ray a few years ago from Sears and it's fan-freakin-tasic.

Thanks. Any comparative comments/preference on the Soundstage versus the Live In Concert BD?

Same thing. IIRC, one of these was the Sears exclusive, the other is the general release from a few years later. Same concert on both. Really wish he'd release more stuff on Blu; would totally rebuy the whole back catalog...

Interesting--thank you!

Now I see that site reviewer Reuben discusses the two different releases in his review:

Quote:
The concert was released in 2005 by Koch Vision on a two-disc DVD set that is now out of print. In 2008, Koch briefly acquired rights to several Soundstage concerts for Blu-ray, but this title was never generally available. A few Blu-ray.com members reported finding copies of the Hearbreakers concert on Blu-ray at Sears, and at least according to Koch's published specifications, the disc included nine bonus tracks.
Do you have the Koch release (2008) or the Image (2012)? The review intimates that there are bonus tracks on the Koch:
Quote:
As noted above, the Blu-ray announced by Koch in 2008 and then hurriedly sold off at Sears was supposed to contain numerous bonus tracks, but I do not have a copy to confirm this. None are included here. For the record, the bonus tracks on the Koch disc are listed as: Down Home Girl; I'd Like to Love You; Baby; Not Fade Away; Walls; Yer So Bad; Billy the Kid; Like a Diamond (From The Last DJ Live at the Olympic); Can't Stop the Sun (From The Last DJ Live at the Olympic).

On balance, I think he is extremely well-represented on the format and we should count our TP blessings. He obviously likes BD: He has three studio albums out on BD-A, the Runnin' Down a Dream docu on BD (the Best Buy exclu version of which IIRC includes a concert), the terrific Damn the Torpedoes Classic Albums on BD, this release plus the insane Anthology BD featuring five-and-a-half hours of live TP in high rez surround sound! There are other artists of similar vintage and even greater stature who have NO BDs on the market at all--everyone from George Strait to Tina Turner to Janet Jackson.

I have the Koch disc. Doesn't seem to have any identifying logos on the package, and no mention of any extras outside. Has the eight bonus tracks, six outtakes from the Soundstage taping, two from the Last DJ tour.

FWIW I submitted a request to 3D Blu-ray Rental that they stock this title. It's now available.

Apparently CBS was premature with the news. It is now being reported through multiple sources that Tom Petty has in fact died.

Rest in peace.

Yes, of course we can now see word that Tom has passed.

But "premature" is inaccurate/a euphemism. At the time of their reporting, CBS was just wrong. Shame on them. I suspect that wanting to be first in the Twittersphere is partly to blame.

"Well I ain't sure how it happened
And I don't know exactly when
But everything got bigger
And the rules began to bend
And the TV taught the people
How to get their hair to shine
And how sweet life can be
If you keep a tight behind"

Today has been a very sad day.

I feel a little weird bring this up during the week that poor Tom passed, but I was trying to figure-out all this Tom BR stuff last week before the bad news... I was reading through this Thread and I'm a little confused:

I think I have the newer version of "Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers: Live." I guess it's missing the bonus Tracks from the previous release? Is there any way to get these tracks?

And I guess the BR version of "Runnin' Down A Dream," is missing the Concert disc?

Are those the only differences?

IMO it's a great way to celebrate TP and his legacy--while pushing back against the sadness--by discussing his music.

But I'm confused as to what you're still confused about if you've indeed read the thread. Not even a page back but right here on the same page, both subjects you're asking about (the bonus tracks and the RDaD concert) are addressed. See the discussion between me and Sandman_Slim and my post #8. The concert is still available on the DVD release of RDaD. I just checked ebay.

Saw Tom Petty open for BeBop Deluxe at Winterland in 1977.

Still the best Tom Petty show ever for me.

All time favorite Tom Petty song: Surrender the arrangement from 1977 and can be seen in the 1979 Santa Monica New Year's Eve show DVD

The line up for that night:
BeBop Deluxe
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
Yesterday and Today

I'm a little (maybe a lot) ADHD so maybe I'm reading over the information I'm asking about.

I'm at work and can't look at my BR. It's the most recent version of the Soundstage Show BR. I'm curious if it is indeed different than the previous Koch version? Is there "Bonus Tracks" on the Previous (First) Release and are they also on the newer version?

sandman slim says about the Koch disc: "Has the eight bonus tracks, six outtakes from the Soundstage taping, two from the Last DJ tour." Since I don't have my BR to compare, I'm curious if those tracks are on the Version I have(?)

I know that. I have the DVD release. I asked if "the BR version of "Runnin' Down A Dream," is missing the Concert disc?" I also wonder if the BR has all the nice little "Extras" like the "Little Booklet and Lobby Cards" and such?

I already asked this on another thread 2 (Two) Years ago, but got no answer:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...50&postcount=8

I guess I'll know sometime somewhat soon since I just ordered the "Runnin' Down A Dream" BR.
