Default Cables Needed

For the Blu-Ray format, what will be type of cable to conncet to a HD TV source??? Will component cables still be the way to go as with DVD -or- is there a new standard being developed for this new disc format???

Thanks

I believe that many of the US models will have DVI connectors (or HDMI, DVI with copy protection and audio).

Also, they should have Firewire/iLink/IEEE1394 - call it what you will - which can be connected to some TV sets.

That said, I would be surprised if they lack composite video, Svideo or component HD outputs (with Stereo RCA and TOSLINK optical outputs for audio) for those stuck in analogue world .

Cheers!

Thanks for the reply ... I'm in the process of slowly updating my A/V system and I had heard that DVI was the next step after component and will be the way to go for the next generation of disc systems.

DVI is still not very commonplace in the AV switching amps. Might want to change tha tpart last, when DVI switching is in the lower price range

For the latest digital projectors, DVI is a must IMHO...

Well, there have been rumours that YUV should be used in Panasonic Blu-ray Recorders... :?

I agree with phloyd. All the indications point to Blu-ray recorders having both DVI and firewire. I think it's more doubtful that they'll include component connections.

If they don't have component or DVI they will need a converter to RGB or whatever they need.

Gotta move with the times...

HDMI and DVI are more or less interchangeable terms

It seems likely that more and more of the consumer type equipment will have HDMI since it is the super set. There will be HDMI to DVI cables if you want to just connect to DVI. The DVI display will need to be HDCP compliant though...

I believe that the new JVC DVHS decks will sport HDMI connectors.

Cheers!
