Rather than connecting the PS3 directly online via a broadband modem. Can I download the firmwares on to my PC/Mac and place them on a DVD-R or DVD-RW and than install it that way?
There is no telephone connection in the family room and we don't have wifi thanks |

In the update link it does not say dvd directly, but it does say storage media so i would guess that if you follow the directions given you should be able to use a dvd. |

I'm in the same position; I don't have the internet at home right now. The directions at the ps site don't say anything about being able to use a CD or DVD. Hopefully someone can confirm but I'll be trying it regardless I guess.
I bought the remote on Sat. only to learn that it's useless without a later fw. |

You don't have a thumb drive? That is the easiest way without the net.

Only the 60 GB has slots for an SD card and memory stick pro duo. What I do for updates is to download the update to my desktop via broadband and then transfer the update from my computer to my psp onto the memory stick pro duo via a USB cable. Looking on gamestop, there is a USB cable designed for the psp which works great. If you don't have the internet at home, go to your library and download the update there. I don't know if you can use a DVD or CD. I do know that CD-R's have to be finalized or they won't work in the ps3. The memory stick duo is the easiest to use. I don't think that you can use a USB flash drive. If in doubt, talk to a sony rep on the phone.

Update, just so everyone knows, did the 1.51 fw update last night with a CD-R. Worked flawlessly. For someone who has little experience in this regard I had more trouble copying the file to the CD-R than I did installing on the PS3.
My first fw update of any kind. I'm so proud. ![]() ![]() |

Copying the file to a CD-R can be a pain, but glad to see that it worked for you.
