The official launch event is set to be take place at 11.30am on Sept 20 at the new wing of the 1Utama shopping centre in Petaling Jaya.

Sony Malaysia said it is plans to sell 150 special launch packages — consisting of one PS3 unit, a copy of Soul Calibur IV, a limited edition PS3 tote bag and Soul Calibur IV CD holder — during the launch.

The company also said that the PS3 units on sale will be the new 80GB variation of the popular videogame console.

The first hundred gamers to purchase the console on the launch day will also stand to walk away with Sony cash vouchers of up to RM1,000.

The first three people in line to buy a Sony PS3 will get a RM1,000 cash voucher that can be used for their next Sony product purchase while the next 17 customers will get RM500 cash vouchers.

The 21st up to the 50th customer will walk away with a RM300 cash voucher while the subsequent 50 customers will take home a RM150 cash voucher each.

No official local pricing for the PlayStation3 was announced at presstime.

It's kinda crazy to think that this article was printed on September 9th and they're going to release the PS3 on the 20th! At the very least, parallel import prices will drop and that hopefully means cheaper hardware, software and accessories.

We generally think of the three blocks "USA, EU, Japan" when it comes to high tech markets but what about other places as today Malaysia or Africa or South America ? This makes me wonder whether they have PS3's and 360's and HDTV's and all that.

Over HERE, we got HDTVs and BD players for sale but not broadcast, cable or satellite as the HD broadcast standard has yet to be ratified legally. So it's really odd to have the hardware and software but not "airware".

As far as Playstations are concerned, PS1 and PS2 were officially launched here. PS3 were parallel imported from HK, JPN, TW and SG. This news will make it official finally.

The X-Boxes were never made official. Even the Wii was official.

India has Ps3s and Blu-ray and HDTVs, and through satellite you can get HD broadcast.

Well I am not really sure about HD broadcasts in India but they do have PS3s, HDTVs and blu-ray players from Sony.
