Just wondering if anyone knows how big of a difference adding another set of speakers to a 7.1 home theatre system is. Is it really noticeable? When a disc doesn't have 7.1 audio and only has 5.1, does any sound come out of the extra set of speakers? What type of speakers should be used for the add ons for a 7.1 sytem? The same kind used for left and right? Thanks
Also, is anyone familiar with the Denon AVR-2809? I was thinking about getting one (have an extremely good discount) and wondered how it compares to some of the Onkyo recievers like the 805. Thanks |

Thats only true if it is a 5.1 soundtrack that is being turned into 7.1 If the audio track is actually 7.1 then they are their own discreet channels.

LPCM, Dolby Digital Plus (DD+), DTS HD High Resolution (DTS HD HR), Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Master Audio (DTS HD MA) support up to 7.1 (can support more) discrete and independent channels. Do you hear much of a difference in a small home theater room? The answer is probably yes, but not as much as some people tend to exaggerate.

For me it depended on the spacing. When i had the 7.1 happening or now with the 9.2, i noticed if u keep all the speakers really separated and not SO close together and u give each speakers their own space away from everything, i tend to hear more and it feels like i'm swamped in a giant sound field. I noticed when i had the speakers all bunched up or close together like some people do with the back or the fronts putting them so close to the tv, then i don't get that open ambient feel. But that's just my setup or me. If it's all close together i don't feel it will make much of a difference.

The Question between the 2809 and 805 is a hard one. The 2809 is of course a new model and the 805 is almost a year old. And there have been a lot of improvements over the last couple of months. Maybe you wanna wait for the 806 and then decide. If you want to buy right now I would go with the 2809. Even though I am a big Onkyo Fan but the 2809 is a really nice piece of hardware. |
