Default Denon AVR 789

Has anyone checked out the new Denon AVR 789?

http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/4560.asp

I am looking at upgrading my whole system; so I am starting with my receiver first. I just came across this one today and wanted to see what some of the experts on here thought about this. I keep on hearing how Denon's pair up great with Polk Audio and I have been wanting to upgrade my speakers to Polk ever since I got my Bose system. So now I am going to sell everything and upgrade. Just need to start off light though; unless I can sell my receiver and Bose system as a bundle for a good amount.

Oh and if there is something up about this Denon system already, I apologize. I tried searching the forums at work and couldn't find anything.

Cool

Well I just picked up the AVR 1909 which has similar specs to the 789. Bought my 1909 at Audiotronic here in Canada, and the sales guy said the 789 and 889 models are made for BB and Future Shop. Prices were the same though, so I went with the higher model #. Personally Denon is all I've owned for stereo receivers and IMO is one of the best brands on the market, so you can't go wrong with any model #.

So you would pick this up over an Onkyo 705? That was the other one that I was looking at since I kept hearing so many positive reviews about it.

Cool

For me personally Denon is always my first choice over anything else. I don't know much about the Onkyo, but I've heard models by Marantz, Harmon Kardon, Pioneer, Yamaha, Sony, and for me the Denons always seem to sound the best. Definitely do some listening to compare the models your looking at. Wherever you're going to buy from, the store should have demo models hooked up, hopefully to similar speaker setups.

The 1909 will be my third Denon. Over the last 16-17 yrs with my previous models I've had 0 repair issues, which is another reason why I will stick with the Denons. They seem built to withstand a nuclear blast. My friend who I convinced to go Denon has nearly had his receiver for 10yrs now--with 0 repair issues.

If the Denon's a fair price for you, go with it. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Maybe somebody with the Onkyo can give you some info on that receiver, just to be fair, because it sounds like I'm some Denon salesperson raving about their product

I have a 789 as well. I picked it over the Pioneer 1018, Yamaha 663 and Onkyo 606, which were all the same price where I live.

I did quite a bit of research prior to purchasing. I chose the Denon because it has a reputation for build quality and is the only receiver with features that most other receivers don't have (Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume). Onkyo also features Dynamic EQ, but their budget receivers are notorious for poor build quality and heat issues.

So far, I'm really happy with my Denon, but the competition is so close that I'm sure you'll be happy with whichever receiver you decide to go with.

I came across this earlier today. I am for sure getting the Denon 789 now; sounds like one of the best new budget receivers out there.

I just need to get rid of my Sony receiver now. Hopefully I can get around a hundred for it. Then onto the Denon! Then after that, it's onto replacing my Bose with Polks! It never ends, but I will never make the mistake of buying a Sony receiver or a Bose home theater system ever again.

Thanks for the personal experience feedback. Sounds like you are happy with it so far. I can't wait to replace my current receiver.
