I've seen all the crappy reviews but figured that since it was M. Night I'd rent it. Well it seems the movie is so new that my Sharp BD-whatever won't play it. I can see the menu but when I play any bit of the movie the screen just goes blank. I can play freakin Iron Man but not this? I guess I need a firmware update but it looks like there hasn't been one since June.

theres another thread about this that has been goin on for a month. We've contacted Sharp repeatedly and they say they are working on the new firmware. Its been almost a month and still nothing. Im guessing any new FOX titles wont work till the upgrade because i bought THE OMEN the same day and that one does the same thing as well.

I think you're smart. I just think a disc needs to be tested on more than a PS3 before releasing to the public. I had old DVD players that wouldn't play certain DVDs, but DVD players back then didn't have firmware updates. I just had to get a new one. After buying three for this very reason, I'm glad I have a PS3. But, I don't think studios should release movies if some players aren't ready for them yet. I can't imagine how I'd feel if I rented a movie and had to return it without watching it. Even as a rental, I think I'd feel ripped off by someone. The companies that create the firmware updates should really work on fixing problems before they become real problems and people feel ripped off.

I respect your opinion on the film... However, I would like to have the ability to make an opinion of my own. I have seen alot of movies that got awful reviews from other that I ended up liking. Respectfully...I was not asking for anyones opinion on the movie. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and how it may be resolved. Thanks

Don't be mad at him cause he's right. He's trying to help you. Not his fault that he's smarter than you with his purchases.

![]() Gee, I wish I was as special as you two. I used to be one of the cool kids, and had a PS3. Didn't like it as a blu player. I'm much happier with my Pioneer. I guess I'm not allowed to eat lunch at the cool kids table anymore though, huh? Last edited by Zman2k2; 11-01-2008 at 05:26 PM. Reason: editing my smart A$$ retort. |

Sort of like Night was apologizing for his last two loopy "Persecuted artist" films by going back to formula and remaking "Signs". ![]() ![]() (Although can't speak for tech problems, since I'd just quickie-downloaded the SD version off of PSNetwork...Yep, another PS3 owner, neener-neener.) ![]() |

While the movie was nowhere near the realm of "good" I don't think it was NEARLY as bad as some are making it out to be.
I mean, as I said, there's no way to call the movie a good movie, but I dunno...it was entertaining....laughable in some spots, yes, but entertaining. Besides, where else can you see Marky Mark and his not so funky bunch trying to outrun the wind???? And to see people run across a field to get away from....the plants. ![]() That being said, it was alright. Of course I'm a lot more forgiving than most when it comes to movies. In my opinion the worst movie ever made, is also one of my faves, just because of how ludicrous it is. ![]() |

Usually for no other stated reason than "Marky Mark" was in it (he's thirty freakin' years old, okay, is he allowed to have a career?), and everybody's running from the wind, and there's like this scene where he talks to plants, like? ![]() (Yeah, and if you think that's silly, I saw this one movie on TV one time where people were running from seagulls?...And like, in one scene, the kids are going home from school, and they see crows, and it's like, "Eek, the crows!", how lame is that?) Night isn't the Hitchcock he delusionally believes himself to be, but he does now how to capture a creepy edginess of post-9/11 panic, and the times when normal adults suddenly rush to their cellphones and CNN bulletins like children for safety. A director can make you buy into any silly idea if he plays it straight enough, and that's the general idea--Whether he actually succeeds at it is the ballgame, and your own variable mileage. |

Ok hear me out - I think that Mnight IS talented despite his last 3 movies. I loved his first 2. he showed he has an eye for good cinematography, story telling abilities, suspense creation and character development all wraped up in some kind of childish charm, which all became his trademark.
Thats also his weakness. he needs to get out of his comfort zone, take more risks as a director, change the formula because 1 more film like the happening will bury his career for a long time. |
