I work at Costco. We have the new PS3's and the sign as well as the box itself says it is not PS2 compatible. I bought a PS3 back when the system came out and mine does play PS2 also. So why is that?

The new 80GB units are basically the 40GB models with a bigger hard drive. I think Sony got rid of that function so that you will start buying the PS3 software for it. |

www.google.com is your friend...
PLUS there's a nifty search tool on this very thread... Because this topic has been covered 3425234 times. I don't want to be "that guy" because I generally hate "that guy" but this is one topic that has been beat to death. along with "when is LOTR coming to blu-ray?" |

But keep in mind that none of the 80gb systems play ALL ps2/ps1 games, only the 60gb does. I say that the blu-ray laser has obviously gotten cheap enough that they could release a PS3 with BC again, either that or drop the 80s in price to compete with the new 360 price drops.... I've got the 60, and I'm glad, because my PS2 was an original unit and had gotten to where I had to adjust the laser every time I turned the system on, so I got to where I would just leave it on all the time. Or you could go buy a 80gb PS3, and a PS2 slim, and still pay $20 less than I paid for mine.... ![]() |

![]() i haven't run into any PS1 or PS2 game that doesn't run better than on its original console. BD playback issues to date = 0 BD playback issues expected = -1 ![]() BC FTW My PS3 - BC - 2 USB SLOTS - card slots - MGS4 - PAIN! = your PS3 only yours retails for $100 less, but i got mine from sony style store at the local mall w/ a $100 rebate which i've already gotten and spent. the only one i've heard that is supposed to be finkicky is the orginal 60GB, a buddy of mine had that issue, and he got it repaired and he's good to go.
