I've had a PS3 drama for a few months - I left to study abroad for a semester, just before I left my PS3 got the YLD...so, after a stupid process of returns and re-returns from Sam's Club (don't ever buy there, they have bad warranty!) I got (we'll my family actually) got a "new" 60 GB PS3 (Mine was 60GB) and they saw a Bluray perfectly, and my brother's been playing for a few days without a problem - YET now they tell my BDS don't work, he tried a few, that do work a normal BD player my dad has on his room, so I know it's not the BDS.......can this actually be possible? It read BD games perfectly, but not movies - I don't want them to send the thing again because they're probably pretty fed up with the whole process.
Any tips for what they can do? |

Since I'm not there I can't tell you exactly - What I can tell you is that that the movies play FINE on another BD PLayer (Not PS3) and that the firmware is up to date - what happens is that the disc is recognized, and when you load up to disk the screen is blank and "waiting for signal" and my brother has to reset the ps3 to be able to take out the disk because it doesn't go forward from there.
Sorry for the the lack of details, my brother is just 15 years old, and I'm on another continent so it's difficult ![]() Last edited by cesca; 11-26-2008 at 12:16 AM. |

I think the parent should contact Sony and check with the Sony guy every video setting on the PS3. Do DVDs work? if not then the problem may be worse as it may be the first step to the PS3 not recognising discs at all. Sorry to ask that but what age is the kid? Quite often kid + technology ends badly.

what blu-ray is it ... tell him to try a title you know worked before, back when u were at home ... sometimes certain discs cause problems and it wouldnt be uncommon for it to work on your dads stand alone and not the ps3 ...
this may not be the case, but this should be ruled out before we can help you further. |

it kinda sounds like the video settings are off. like thetenth said, it could be trying to display at 24 fps and the tv cant handle it.

Most TV's i've had experiences with state on the screen if HDMI "Signal is not recognized" when 24hz is initiated. Besides, if the problem is 24hz, the logos at the front of the disc are usually interlaced or non 24hz. Its very rare the video starts in 24hz mode. Its very rare a movie will go into a firmware related obstacle from the press of the X either. Usually this comes after trailers and menu options are displayed.
Therefore, after thinking it through. I can't think of anything option related. |

Restore PS3 System fixes this - but back your PS3 first if you care about your data.
Games work but Bluray don't on PS3 indicates a software problem. Both not working indicates hardware, and you might try a laser lens clean in this case. There are two lenses in PS3 one DVD and the other Bluray. |
